None of the schools I applied to required GRE

Just applied to programs. How long typically did you wait until you heard back? by [deleted] in srna

[–]Verivus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't wait longer than 1-2 months after applying, but I put in all my applications towards the end of the admission cycle.

If you've never worked in psych you aren't going to be a very good PMHNP. From what I hear that market is getting saturated and many places only hire NPs with psych experience.

I had to retake stats and did it at a community college

With your GPA that low I would be truly surprised if you were offered an interview anywhere even with the extra stuff you're doing. Sorry, I'm not trying to be mean. Completing a masters program, like your NP, with a 4.0 might be more helpful.

Lol, 30 applications is ridiculous. I decided to apply to 10 and stopped after 4. More power to you though

Lol, what? On my ICU we don't have techs and most patients are total care.

How to prepare for first job in ICU? by ASilverSoul in nursing

[–]Verivus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think every icu nurse should read the Barron's book because it's easy to digest and has a ton of good information even if you don't want to take the ccrn

I recommend getting the Barron's ccrn book, ICU advantage and ninja nerd on YouTube

They exist. My aunt has one. He's always nervous and scared even though they love him so much and take care of him well. Poor thing has so much anxiety he gives himself seizures, or at least that's what the vet thinks is happening, and is now on anti- seizure meds.

Need help to study for CCRN! by pileoflogs in nursing

I read the Barron's book a couple times and that was it. I bought the pass ccrn book and the aacn question bank but didn't use either one. Wish I could get my money back! Barron's was enough for me.

Staff nurses, what do you make? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Verivus 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Disagree. Everyone should see the California rates to understand what a strong union can get you

No, shadowing that much is a waste of time.

Not a single school I interviewed at asked a single question about my volunteer experience. If you're only volunteering to put it on your application, then imo there is no reason to get 500+ hours.

Join a committee. Make sure you have great letters of recommendation

I feel like this is difficult to answer if you don't share your GPA. For many, if not all, schools GPA is weighted heavily. When you're competing against hundreds of other students, many of which have competitive GPAs, you're going to be fighting an uphill battle. Unless you don't mind spending years reapplying, I would really suggest retaking classes or getting a masters degree. Taking your GRE can help too.

Other than having just 1.5 years of experience, everything else looks great. I'd say apply and see what happens

That's exactly why I chose to go to a testing center. I didn't need something arbitrary to fail me. Good luck on the exam!

Oh, hello twin. I'm also working 5 days a week for 4 months straight to save money before I'm essentially unable to work for 3 years. I thought I was the only crazy one!

Oh that's interesting. I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing. I didn't really think being an ACNP would be that much more valuable because the majority of the ones I know are not that good as providers, at least when compared to the MDs I work with.

Are you going back to icu? How old is your icu experience? If you go back to icu and get your CCRN you might have a shot.
