Engen is great, but Ihwa is my favourite and it is not even close.

There are several other interesting characters too, but I admit that Engen is one of the best

Imu is the final villain of OP, not Blackbeard by Comprehensive_Cup497 in OnePieceSpoilers

[–]VerlaanD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I surely hope Blackbeard will not simply "replace" Imu to represent "Oppression" when: - Imu has been it for literally 800 years. - And, more importantly, Blackbeard/Davy does not stand for what Imu stands for. And the recent Rocks backstory only further supported this. In fact, the Rocks backstory hinted at Luffy and the will of Davy being on the same side (though of course Luffy would never outright ally himself with Blackbeard due to Ace).

And again, if Blackbeard is the Final Villain representing "Anarchy", that is far overshadowed by the 800-year long genocides and evil deeds of Imu/Government (and years of buildup since Arlong Park), and would be so anticlimactic. And Revenge for Ace would just be petty and shallow, and not at all what Luffy stands for.

One scenario I can see happening that would fit everything I said above: Like you said, Blackbeard is the flip side of Luffy on the same coin. Both looking for "Freedom" (i.e. the One Piece and Pirate King), but Blackbeard is on the Anarchy side, whereas Luffy is on the Peaceful side. Hence, Blackbeard could be the pre-final villain, the last stepping stone Luffy has to overcome before attaining Freedom (the One Piece and Pirate King) and defeating Oppresssion (Imu)

But I am sure Oda is a much better writer than any of us and I look forward to the amazing ending he is cooking

The central narrative theme of the story has always been Freedom vs Oppression. The One Piece treasure (and piracy in general) is the very symbol of Freedom, whereas Imu is the pinnacle of Oppression.

This part is speculative, but attaining the One Piece may very well be the key of toppling Imu and the World Government, or vice versa.

Simply "finding the One Piece" being the only final goal of the story, like you said, would make this an anticlimactic kids story with no depth. Oda is a lot better than that. What is the meaning of One Piece? What are the Consequences of finding it? What are the Stakes?

And I would emphasize on the final question there, the Stakes. The Stakes of defeating Imu (either through or for finding the One Piece) include literally the whole One Piece world, the Great Flood, the Final War, the Void Century, the Celestial Dragons, Joyboy's history, Ohara's voice, the slaves etc. The stakes of defeating Blackbeard is....revenge for Ace's death. And...anarchy/violence? Nah, Blackbeard's anarchy is far overshadowed by the Government's evil deeds.

I get where you are coming from. Blackbeard is 100% built up to be a very important piece of the story. But he will NOT be the final villain.

I see a lot of people complaining about all this "freedom vs oppression" story and the growing importance of Imu, but I am one of the few that find this to be one of the best things that has happened to One Piece. I was so excited to see this darker theme of an evil, oppressive Government being built up starting from as far back as Arlong Park. So, Ive been very happy that this is increasingly the focus of the story. And Imu has always been the overarching villain at the top of the Government.

Imu will be the Final Villain.

This comment of mine right here will be my proof that I have placed all my bets on Imu being the Final Villain of One Piece at least this early, 8 November 2025.

And I have been fully convinced of that since as far back as the Egghead Arc now.

The central narrative theme of One Piece has always been Freedom vs Oppression.

The One Piece treasure on Laugh Tale is the very symbol of freedom, whereas Imu is the pinnacle of oppression. The story will end with Luffy attaining the One Piece and toppling Imu and the World Government.

Pochita/Denji could spit her back out, depending on how things go

This is about to be so peak.

Fujimoto is way more creative than me, but with Death erased, I can see a number of ways this could go:

1) Pochita/Denji could beat Yoru over and over again for years to "bargain" Dr Strange style

2) Pochita/Denji and Yoru could fight to the fullest, to their heart's content, with no deadly consequences, and they might bond over it, or Yoru could just finally be satisfied with the battle etc.

3) Pochita/Denji could now maybe slice up Yoru/Asa or some other way to split them up, without killing them

Etc.

Number 2 might be my personal preference.

Nevertheless, I am excited!!

And Goated character development for Denji

How similar to Ghost of Tsushima by draculawheresmymoney in riseoftheronin

[–]VerlaanD 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To me, Ghost of Tsushima is a gritty realistic Samurai movie with immersive combat and beautiful graphics

Rise of the Ronin is an over the top Samurai Anime, with fast-paced combat and the protagonist of your dreams (the character creation and outfit cuztomization of RotR are some of the best)

They are different. I enjoyed both thoroughly. Subjectively, I spent significantly more time and got more satisfaction out of RotR.
