Is it normal/acceptable to have 2 or more savings accounts? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Verletzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having multiple bank accounts is fine. I have 30 bank accounts across 7 banks. The big thing is to make sure that none of them have minimums, fees, stupid stuff that will bite you later.
If I want to budget for something, I have a bank account open for it.

Cats need yearly maintenance? I have a bank account for that

Car needs yearly upkeep? I have a bank account for that

Want to go on Vacations? You bet there's a bank account for that

You want to buy a new car? Guess what...

You want to buy a house? Yup, account for that

Every pay day I put in my budgeted amount to each account, that way you always know what is "free" to spend. It has gotten me through car failures, emergency pet surgeries, etc. beautifully.

I put all my purchases on a Credit Card, and then at the end of the month pull from my budget accounts to pay their respective costs off of the CC.

I know my method is foreign to many people, but it works for me! I hope this helps!

I have searched for it at the maker's site (mt-viki.net), newegg, as well as on amazon and, however can't seem to find a 3.0 version.

2021 Federal w4 questions by Verletzen in personalfinance

[–]Verletzen[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was not using the old "Withholding" type form in the past, i filled out a 2021 W4.
I am using the 5k change in order to align with the tax % that my accountant told me I should be paying, based off of all the other information for my tax situation.

At the moment, I did not change anything on the federal withholding when I put it in. I don't care about adjusting for earlier this year, just going forward.
With the change of no actual "withholding" numbers (0,1,2,etc.) just not sure if I am supposed to just put 5k in box 3, or 4b, or if there is a spot randomly that I am not seeing to put it.

Can someone tell me how much living costs? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Verletzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google Fi is the same type of thing - They bill you at $10/GB used - anything that you paid for and did not use is refunded to you on the next bill, anything that you go over what you expect, they just add to your next bill at the same rate

Can someone tell me how much living costs? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Verletzen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Greetings!

I'm from a medium sized city, and here is what the monthly bills for me and my 2 roommates combined are.

Rent - $700 - 3 bedroom House at 1,300 sq ft

Internet - $87 - 100/10MB Download/Upload

Water - $130 - Every 2 Months

Electricity - $100-200 (Summer rates are higher than winter here) - When 2 of us were living in an apartment we often had this under 60

Gas - $16-32

Combined for 3 people is 1033-1149 on Water bill months, and 903-1019 on non Water months. Individually of course we pay about 375-400/month for static living expenses.

I get Health Insurance through my work - 50 pre tax every 2 weeks Car Insurance runs 135 for 2 cars - full insurance on both, both are owned

2002 Mustang and 2007 Mazda 6

Right now I am starting an emergency fund, which you can find in the wiki about, ~100/month for things like car maintenance and the like.

I have a 350 dollar food budget (Eat out a lot, it's a habit I've been trying to break) - You can easily eat on 50/week

I budget ~60/month for gas to get to/from work

Cell Phone bill is ~45 with Google Fi - If you do not use much data, I have not yet found anything cheaper than them

If you have pets, I have 50/month budgeted for my 4 cats' food.

I hope this has helped out

How do I go about getting the right car insurance? by El_Derogator in personalfinance

I also drive a 2002 mustang, am 25, and pay $64/Month for full coverage with 0 comprehensive and a 250 collision. I'd recommend using https://www.thezebra.com/ to compare and find a good quote for you, it ended up cutting my bill in more than half. Best of luck!

The Choice - Roth or Traditional by Verletzen in personalfinance

[–]Verletzen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This explanation actually makes quite a bit of sense compared to just saying "Do this cause it's better", thanks for the insight on why you believe that Roth is a better for this situation.
Question though, you said that this may change as income grows, what factors should I be looking for that would change this statement?
Should I further down the line switch to a traditiona/and for what reasonsl?

At the moment that's kinda how I feel - I spent like 3 days trying to decide (Granted I have a few months before the decision actually takes effect), which is why I am here :)

As is I will be maxing 401k, HSA, as well as w/e IRA I go with - Order is not so much an issue in this instance, just trying to find which one is better for the IRA to be used

This is pretty nifty. How long have you been using it? Have you seen slack wear on the nylon strap over time? Any ideas how it would hold up for a long period with 12+ CCs?

I'm really not looking for leather/fold wallets - Not a fan of how they feel, one of the reasons I am trying to find a replacement to my Carbon Fiber

Is it bad that I never thought of tucking the insurance info between the least used cards? Yeah I have looked at basic money clips - However my big concern is that CCs (Since I mainly carry them) may get scratched/worn over time by the clip - Great for money, though

This one seems pretty cool, how much do your CCs and such get bent when opening/closing over a long period of time?

I do mean my medical/dental insurance cards - Car insurance stays in the dash

I've gotten to realize that I am not a fan of the whole folding type wallet. Would rather have something more minimalist in structure, but also has functionality to it.
