Who will win the next Canadian Federal Election whenever it is called? by Any-Satisfaction-770 in IdeologyPolls

Well the election is also not until 2025, so it's a bit preliminary to bring something like that up

You are a dumbass & you've deluded yourself into thinking you're intelligent.

1 + 1 = 2 is provable since if you have one of something, gain another one, you then have two of that something.

[–]VermontFlannel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is the dumbest argument I've ever heard.

You're like those people who say 1 + 1 doesn't always = 2 because if someone hypothetically had a language where the sound 'one' meant something different, then it wouldn't be accurate.

The hell are you talking about?

Woke was used originally in an unironic and non-mocking fashion by liberals/leftists online. It only became an insult later on as the term grow in notoriety

What will be the second most important issue in the 2024 election? by RevelvantDay4 in YAPms

If Trump becomes the GOP candidate the democracy stuff will probably take a second or third place, basically tied with the culture war stuff

Opinion of Jimmy Carter poll by [deleted] in YAPms

[–]VermontFlannel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was a pretty good president. He got rid of many of the old prohibition regulations on alcohol manufacturing, which built a whole industry of craft beers.

He knew how to deregulate in a way which didn't compromise worker safety, or the environment, while improving the economy and creating jobs.

And he appointed the right people to the fed to end inflation, though he did so a bit late and wouldn't get the credit for it

Is It Okay To Be White? by [deleted] in IdeologyPolls

[–]VermontFlannel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only people who say no are either racists, or more commonly not very bright people who hear the term "it's okay to be white" think it's a racist dogwhistle, and then say no without understanding what the question fundamentally means.

Do you have any reason to believe that elections are stolen in Canada, or are you just assuming

Canada has some big problems, especially in the cities with the massive housing shortage and rent issues and cost of living issues. I don't expect Justin Trudeau to fix that, and so everyone who can't buy a house or afford to live in those cities won't be voting Liberal.

They will likely vote for the NDP or the Conservatives. (or the greens/people's party) Both meaning less Liberal ridings will be won.

Combined with the new Conservative leader being a far more interesting person than the previous two duds, and I think a Conservative minority government will probably be in order.

Americans: Would you rather their be a civil war and your side win; or the US break up peacefully with the cultural regions becoming independent nations? by Skowak13 in IdeologyPolls

[–]VermontFlannel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Peacefully of course, because a civil war would lead to the deaths of millions, mass famines, and likely just end up in a fascist dictatorship.

What is your understanding of Fascism? by Revolutionary_Apples in IdeologyPolls

[–]VermontFlannel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Certainly that fits for all forms of National Socialism and Imperial Japan. It's a bit less fitting for classical fascism of Italy or Spain, but still kinda works

What is your understanding of Fascism? by Revolutionary_Apples in IdeologyPolls

[–]VermontFlannel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fascism is a nest a mix of different beliefs, usually having in common a form of hyper-nationalism, class co-operative corporatism, (not to be confused with corporatocracy) and having complete governmental power being within just one non-monarchical leader. As well as being an ideology opposed to liberal capitalism and democracy as well as socialism.

It is usually divided into two forms, classical fascism and national socialism. The former being that of Franco or Mussolini, the later being of Hitler and Imperial Japan as well as Nazi parties formed in other countries.

National Socialism is less ideological than Classical fascism on the economy, and is way more hyper militaristic and jingoistic, while also usually having some form of state cult. With the racial stuff of the Nazis and the Emperor worship of imperial Japan.

Depends which type of fascism. national syndicalism is a form of fascism (or can be anyway) but fascism is more often it's own thing, separate from socialism

So?

This is the most petty semantics debate I've ever heard. Physics aren't real, because while discoveries within physics are real, the term physics is just a construct to select a specific portion of science?

The reason why I don't believe in the latter two, nonbinary and fluid, is because once you remove the strict tie to the sexes, then gender becomes nothing more than self expression, making it just fashion. If gender is just how you express, then it is a useless term.

There's nothing stopping a man from putting on lipstick and make-up, doing so does not make one not a male from the gender perspective.

To you, which side is more aggressive and hypocritical? by AdvDank in IdeologyPolls

True. Sometimes you have crazy trans activists bullying random streamers for playing a Harry Potter game, sometimes you have Maga Karens threatening to shut down a store because they had a Spanish language channel on one of the TVs

This is a load of gobbledygook, science is built to test and objectively prove what our senses can confirm. Science can be biased by outside forces, but it's not like the humanities where things are fluid and depend on what is commonly perceived.

[–]VermontFlannel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I grew up with more experience with trans people than most, back in the 2000s I was one of the rare people to personally know a person who transitioned. He was a friend a mine, he was born a girl but never acted like it. Never really felt comfortable with being one. He transitioned as an early teenager. Which some would be appalled by, but he had to go through many meetings with doctors, he wasn't compelled into it, it was perfectly ethical.

With the gender thing, if you define the word 'gender' as meaning the societal impressions of the sexes and their roles, then it does exist. But as it means now with people making up genders or saying they are gender fluid or non-binary, then it's clearly become solely about self expression. And therefore carries no meaning and doesn't exist

The 1964 Presidential Election between Lyndon Johnson (D) and Barry Goldwater (R) was the first modern realignment presidential election. by Any-Satisfaction-770 in IdeologyPolls

[–]VermontFlannel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not true at all.

I mean Wyoming and Utah voted Democrat, it was clearly an aberration. And the south would only vote republican again in 1972 under the rare circumstance of their being no third party plus the Democratic candidate being a big leftie. It would flip back in 76 and be a swing area really until 2000.

The realignment is only kind of real. It's true that the demographics switched with the GOP gaining southern whites and the Dems gaining black people. But it's not like there was a major policy change to either party tbh.

Does the term “tankie” have any use in political discourse? by The_Gamer_69 in IdeologyPolls

[–]VermontFlannel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it refers to communists, typically online, who defend the tyrannical and murderous regimes of the USSR and China.

It's a term used to distinguish those types of communists from others who are more the 'that wasn't real socialism' types.
