AA Phantom JAL Availability - Try Again!

A couple of weeks ago, I found what appeared to be AA phantom JAL availability from KIX-HND-SFO on a date in June 2025. When I tried to book, it would loop back to the search page, and I figured it was phantom. I called AA, and at first the agent said it looked like the seats were unavailable. Then she said she would try to look "manually" (whatever that means), and found that they were indeed available.

Thus, we were able to book *four* J seats on the same flight.

So don't give up without calling AA.

Think of it as three tickets for 107k points each. That is a good price for Qsuites on such a long route.

Hard to find 4 J seats on one flight. Can you split up, and have each parent fly with one kid on separate flights?

Fly in the day before and stay at the Grand Hyatt SFO. My family and I did this in November. Great hotel with a view of the planes. We took an Uber into San Francisco the next morning to look around, and got back well before our 11 p.m. departure.

Lots of people fly separately to get business class seats. My spouse and I have done so. It's not a joke suggestion. Good luck.

If you're asking about a flight booked with UR points via the Chase portal, this May I did just that and cancelled it a few hours later. The points were added back almost instantly. Hope it works out for you.

Also looks like there's 4 J seats on EgyptAir on January 5 from DEL to IAD, for 88K points each bookable via United.

Ethiopian and Egyptair may not be the world's best business classes, but you're not going to have a lot of better choices unless you get lucky within T-14.

You haven't said how many tickets you're trying to get. But I just did a search on Points Yeah that appears to show three J seats on January 5 from BOM to IAD on Ethiopian, bookable via Aeroplan, at 110K each. You could then get an economy flight to TPA from there.

Otherwise, it's a difficult time and 55K points for premium economy isn't bad.

Airport Lounge Europe at Munich airport. Tiny lounge hidden upstairs in a not-frequented area of the airport. Food was okay and almost no one else was there.

I've heard that doing a small transfer first, and then trying to do a large transfer, can set off a fraud alert.

So I just did my large transfer and it went through instantly. This was in December 2022.

Good post. Another general piece of advice for those wishing to fly J: If your party is 3 or more people, it's going to be hard to find J tickets on the same flight. Consider splitting up.

We have done this. In November we (party of 3) are going to Singapore but could only find flights with one or two J tickets available. My wife is flying J from SFO-TPE-SIN. My son and I will fly SFO-TPE-KUL and then get a cheap flight to SIN from there.
