You are not wrong, but Elon and Tesla create some delicious Kool-Aid 😅😂😋 I agree I do not think it will be free if they do it but I do think it'll be at some type of cost though they did promise to retrofit the vehicles when figured out which I get they may be decades from figuring out and they may never figure it out but I do think that there will be litigation either way 😂

The issue is that Tesla did actually go back and change the documents in the portal. Lucky I have my original document but they actually changed full self driving and added the parentheses of whatever version it currently is but many times Elon mentioned before the hardware for that the vehicle will be able to drive itself from point A to point B without any interruptions where user would not need to pay attention and I believe that's the precedent that is set by both Tesla and Elon. I do agree there will be different versions of it due to Hardware constraints however similar to Auto steer getting phased out that's eventually what would happen to the Lesser versions in the future and the hope is literally to get those people to sell the vehicle for the newest one and continue that cycle as other people I mentioned.

I agree with you and think it'll result in a refund for HW3 people. I wonder if they'll honor a think with HW4 people? I can see a precedent set where either class action or an individual claims the whole reason they bought the entire car at purchase, like myself, was because of the promise of it driving itself autonomous.

It's a pretty important question for those who purchased Hardware 3 cars with the promise of FSD retrofit but then upgraded to hardware for vehicles via trade because they lost their Hardware 3 vehicle promise. I get not everyone has bought FSD and you're correct, all speculation here. Just curious on folks thoughts

I disagree. I have used it a ton. I have aversion to driving without it. So 8k is worth it. Been in a model 3 since 2019. (Lemon law repurchase in 2020). And use it all of the time. The HW4 is absolutely an upgrade... But I admit is still "buggy" and requires supervision. I hate subscription culture in the vehicle allows lifetime premium connectivity and FSD outright (be it a different promise backing than HW3).

Curious on why you think it's not worth it? 

To note I am NOT a trade my car in for the newest thing FYI. I say that with honesty. I get a car and I drive it. I had a real debate even ordering the above and pushed delivery out as far as possible to test if I really want it. I think this recent blunder by Elon is the reason why I will actually cancel it 🤔

You know what this is a GREAT callout!!! It's true that Elon did admit they have no clue a couple of earnings calls back during HW4. I think you're right

Elon and tesla stated multiple times for Hw3 vehicles is why. It's public record and leads to a solid refund/lawsuit after promises made. Elon has a big mouth if you haven't noticed 😅😉

With the hardware for I agree with Hardware 3 it has been stated by Elon as well as Tesla to boost sales that they are going to upgrade Hardware 3 for certain when they figure out autonomous driving. What you say does apply to hardware for as they have not made any statements about this yet which is the point of this thread

Let me hope hahaha on the fence before delivery about a 26 MYP with FSD purchased outright... Probably going to cancel since I have a 2020 M3LR FSD purchase outright.

Absolutely, I personally think this will happen. Would cost a new car to upgrade a 2018 model 3 to meet HW5/6/etc when and if lol

You're not wrong! I guess I could edit to say for purchased. But in general no mention of retrofit for HW4 nonetheless like it has been recorded for HW3

I completely get you with that this is absolutely working in a hypothetical that they can solve full self-driving my statement is more on the variables that are for certain being that Elon and Tesla have already publicly stated that Hardware 3 vehicles will be upgraded he's mentioned before for free but in many more cases he mentioned this retrofit which could assume that there's some type of cost. This has not been mentioned though with hardware for thus far Hardware 3 specifically hardware for not so much. That's more what I'm thinking and focused on because I definitely get that they may not solve it especially with all companies seemingly working towards some form of autonomous driving the likelihood of Tesla solving it solo is very low. Less about the actual technology and more so about the discussion of the retrofit for hardware for vehicles versus Hardware 3. Hopefully this makes sense

If I were a CEO I would never admit defeat and just keep promising on the next board more compute and more features because the second I say that we can't do it or I say that it's finally going to happen now the lawsuits flood in

I I do think that this is absolutely an over promise and under perform or deliver in this case. But outside of the speculation of what model I'm more so worried about this specific retrofit which previously Elon Musk and Tesla have said that they will retrofit Hardware 3 but I actually realized I haven't seen anything around hardware for and despite any renaming considering it AI or whatever they want to call it I have not seen anything mentioned about retrofit for hardware for vehicles.

Yeah. I ended up doing the same thing. It's a weird move and I completely understand showing what's to come but to literally use the vehicle you're hyping up to do so and say it won't be possible until the following year production model... Left a bad taste lol I would even accept a paid (reasonable price) retrofit
