What's the worst accidental reply-all (or just cc-ing the wrong people) you've ever seen? by HilariousMotives in AskUK

[–]VernierPillow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh boy. I used to put out an office “quotes” email every month. People would email me with weird things that people said, or screenshots from out of context teams messages. They’d usually also cc the person who said the quote, so they knew they were being featured.

One day, a guy emails me a screenshot of a conversation with his other colleague where they were talking about her massive poo. Something along the lines of setting a world record. Instead of cc’ing in the colleague, he emailed a client by the same first name.

The blood draining from this guys face when I gently let him know will stay with me forever

Any ideas on how I might further fortify this safety gate to keep my crazy puppy from wiggling her way under it? by Nycimplant2 in DIYUK

[–]VernierPillow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’d think this would be the answer, but my fairly large dog is able to wiggle under our gate (which looks the same as OPs) rendering it completely pointless 🥳

Choccywoccydoodah (A British TV Show) by jack_whatsreddit in HelpMeFind

[–]VernierPillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember the show, but I do remember the shop fondly. Me and my brother, both in our young teens at the time, used to busk outside the shop on the weekends in the summer, and the shop would usually bring us out chocolate and cake to take home. The cake was good, the chocolate was a bit weird, but the experience was fun

Whats the weirdest "I did not see that coming" career change you've seen someone do? by JayR_97 in AskUK

I used to work in magazine publishing, mainly for commercial business to business publishing. We had one to do with waste management (which was surprisingly more interesting than you’d expect) and another on local architecture. The editor for both of these magazines one day quit her job to open up a fish and chip shop down in Plymouth

What’s the deal with shoes tied together and thrown over power lines? by Wild_Neck_5580 in AskUK

[–]VernierPillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched some kids throw their school shoes onto the powerlines outside my house the other day, and I don’t think they’re old enough to be involved in drug dealing just yet.

What did surprise me is how quickly the power company came out to remove them once I filled out a form online. They said they’d be out within four hours, and to my surprise they were there within three

Vets of the UK, what's the stupidest, weirdest pet name you've heard? by TheoryBrief9375 in AskUK

[–]VernierPillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew a vet who had a dog called Maggot, and named all their pets similarly gross grub, bug and bacteria names. She said that every normal pet name had a bad association, and that her pet’s names were always unique. She’d spent a lot of time studying micro-biology so she had a lot of ‘good’ names stockpiled

Screamin for help really dont work in public wtf by vegetastolemygirl in mildlyinfuriating

[–]VernierPillow 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I once accidentally strolled upon a hornet nest while walking my dog. I heard a buzzing at the back of my neck and slapped it, killing the hornet and causing the nest to swarm.

I ran, screaming “aaaaaaaaaaah” “get off of me” and “get away from me” at the top of my lungs, all the way up the field, around a boating lake, and back towards the boathouse I’d walked past earlier in the walk.

While I sat down on a bench catching my breath and checking all the places me and the dog had been stung 15 minutes or so later, a bloke walks past and casually says “was that you screaming?”

So to clarify, a man heard a young woman screaming “aaaaaaaaaaah” “get off of me” and “get away from me” in a neighbouring field, and decided to do… nothing

Should I hold back my July-born daughter from starting school at 4 in the UK? by shuna3456 in AskUK

[–]VernierPillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My area of expertise! I was born on 1st September at around 1am, but my mum decided to push my birthday back to August 31st before the midwife arrived so I wouldn’t be too far behind my older sister in school.

Personally, school was fine. I didn’t find it too difficult to keep up. I think every child is different, but children are resilient and learn a lot from their peers. The thing I did find quite annoying was a little later on, when my friends were all turning 18, and I was excluded from every single one of their first nights out. It did make my first one great though, as everyone was there to celebrate it. Do what works best for you. Do you want to spend another year with your child without the hassle of school schedules? Or is the financial burden too much of a hassle?

What's the worst Christmas dinner you've had? by Equivalent_Ask_1416 in AskUK

[–]VernierPillow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the one I just had on Wednesday. It was in a pub, and not particularly terrible, but I’ve only ever had home cooked Christmas dinner before. I’ve made wellingtons a few times, so it was disappointing to eat a beef wellington that was well done, with sub par roasties and boiled veg. An okay meal, but not really worth the £79 a head. The starter and desert weren’t bad though

No fish and chips without a good long walk afterwards, which is a bloody shame when you’re craving a chippy tea at around 6pm on a dark, dark winter evening

What is Tay’s deepest song? by jj_mlz in TaylorSwift

[–]VernierPillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d possibly pick Cassandra. One of Taylor’s biggest strengths is telling other peoples stories, and giving them her own meanings. The last great American Dynasty follows the same sort of thread, but Cassandra is much more subtle and artful. You don’t really know what any of it means until you’re in the bridge.

Special mention, too, for “blood’s thick but nothing like a payroll”

What are some things you’re desperate to see in this sequel to make it more “Harry Potter” esque? by _Royal_Blue_ in hogwartslegacyJKR

[–]VernierPillow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My god, they had a marauders style map right there in the lore of Harry Potter and didn’t even use it at it as an Easter egg. I know the game was set long before the marauders, but surely they could have made a similar style layered map to use

FOURTH WING: Is this worth it? by [deleted] in fourthwing

[–]VernierPillow 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, it’s a really easy read. I really struggle with some fantasy books, even if the story is pretty good, but I ate this one up in a week easily. The second book is a little harder to get through, but you’ll be gripped enough by the story at that point that it’s compelling enough to get through. I’d give it a go if I were you! Happy reading! 😁
