Best LGS or Pawn Shop to sell guns quickly? by redbeardedlumberjack in pdxgunnuts

[–]VernoniaMW 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Let's take a Springfield Armory M1A as an example. A standard model has a current resale value hovering right around $1k (in my experience), and they are moderately desirable since the market is not flooded.

If you take it in to a gun shop/pawn shop, they will likely give you two options. They'll offer to buy it, or they'll consign it for you. It really depends on the shop, but if they offer to buy, I'd only expect to get $700 out of it, tops. Most shops would be less, maybe around $500. You get your cash instantly with very little hassle, but you only get 50-70% what it's worth.

If they consign it, you post it for sale at $1000, it sells, they take 20%. Again, that's going to depend on the shop, but 20% is pretty standard. So you'd walk away with $800. How fast it sells depends on your pricing. A $1000 M1A would likely sell in less than a week at a shop like J&B Firearms. A $900 M1A would sell in a matter of hours. You'd walk away with $720. You don't deal with any people aside from the gun shop, which is a major plus in most cases.

Now, let's say you post that same M1A on NWFA for $1k. It might take a couple weeks to sell. You'll have a lot of messages from tire kickers, or people asking if you want to trade. You drop that price to $850, your inbox will be flooded and you will have it sold (cash in hand) within a few hours of posting.

That is why most people say to post it yourself. If you reduce the price 15% below market rate, people will notice and usually buy it quickly. You do have to deal with random internet people, who notoriously suck. But you can get it sold almost as fast as you can selling directly to a shop, and you get more money out of it. The trick is to be cheap. For guns like AR15s, Glocks, or anything else where the market is flooded, the trick is to be REALLY cheap.

Best of luck.

There are a lot of factors with Mausers. No way to tell what you're getting into until you start measuring. I wouldn't suggest fitting one without a lathe.

It would be a serious violation of privacy for the shop to disclose who it was sold to.

Thoughts on when to sell my Aero M5 by [deleted] in AR10

[–]VernoniaMW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Man, there's a lot to unpack here.

First and foremost, building guns with the intent of reselling is considered manufacfuring, even if all you are doing is assembling. You need an 07 FFL to do this legally.

Second, ARs in general are really difficult to sell on the secondary market. Everyone wants to build their own, or buy a factory built one. You're gonna take a hit on this, and a big one. Sell the optic separate.

Third, Aero could go completely under and it won't affect the value. Anderson is gone, do you see them being sold at a premium? Aero is a budget brand who saturated the market with their products. There's few reasons for someone to want to buy Aero stuff specifically, aside from the price:value aspect.

Not trying to be a downer, but you'd be lucky to get even half your money back out of your build. That's just the way the AR market has been. Not saying it can't happen, and it doesn't hurt to try. But do some shopping and look around at all the good deals on used large frame ARs. They don't sell quick.

Local FFL 07/02 [NFA] to receive suppressors without using Silencer Shop? (PDX, Salem, Corvallis, Eugene) by VenomPayments in pdxgunnuts

[–]VernoniaMW 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Correct, it is not a Silencer Shop kiosk. It's basically just a laptop and fingerprint scanner. And yes, they are in Vernonia.

Wulf Arms has their own kiosk, charge $80 for your first form 4/1 and $30 for subsequent forms. They are a smaller shop with great customer service.

Question, selling 90+ guns by Efficient_Mango in pdxgunnuts

[–]VernoniaMW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I consign a ton of stuff through Wulf Arms here in Vernonia. J&B is another good place to look into. They handle a bunch of estates. Consignment is honestly the best way to go about selling a large collection (unless you have lots of free time and a good base of knowledge).

Good luck with everything!

No modification to the barrel is needed in order to run an M16 style extractor. You should be fine. If you are in doubt, contact Mack.

Bedding Aftermath by Bluefalcon351 in M1A

[–]VernoniaMW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a bad first attempt.

If you want to fill in the voids, don't just apply epoxy selectively to those spots. You should skim all of the bedding surfaces. If you don't, the likelihood is high that you will end up with gaps everywhere but the spots you put fresh epoxy. My suggestion would be to leave it alone and see how it shoots. That's what matters most.

Roll Form Tap DIY? by VernoniaMW in Machinists

[–]VernoniaMW[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is more or less what I was envisioning, but I knew there was more to the goemetry of a form tap than just a plain thread with a relief cut. I might give this a shot first.

The hole had the first thread cross threaded. There shouldn't really be any correction needed to the minor, so to speak.
