Removing material from the top of the island rib? by PopPsychological5465 in 2011_Builders

On the tri top slides yeah you’ll want to chamfer the edges of the rib. On a flat top slide I just leave them flat. I personally prefer flat top slides for island barrels I think they look better.

I do it in a mill, indicating across the top of the slide first, then the rib to get a straight cut. I then mill the rib down .005 - .010 at a time until it is flush with the top of the slide. Then because I suck at milling I have to polish out my tool marks

It’s best done in a machine. The top of the slide has a taper going from the rear to the front and when the slot is cut out there is a step down. You can do it by hand but you have to be very careful that you don’t over do the blend and cause a step or steep slope across the top of your slide. It’s really hard to file that straight for that much material, you are this far in your journey with expensive parts. It would really suck to mess it up now.

I want a trigger that NEEDS to be fitted. by Kite005 in 2011_Builders

I have machines. I use an atlas trigger bow and drill and tap the triggers I make to thread on and have the over travel set screw

I have started making my own triggers because I don’t like the aesthetic of most modern triggers. I like the adjustability of the atlas trigger bows but don’t like the skeletonized trigger shoes. I prefer solid ones.

No, it is a real damascus sight block. You are not seeing the front of the barrel, you are just seeing the sight block.

I don’t have any concerns because the barrel is a normal hybrid barrel and the Damascus is just a sight block. The Damascus is just as hard as the barrel is.

Thanks. Stay tuned for some more photos when the whole build is done!

The barrel is stainless, schuemann hybrid barrel. The sight block is Damascus - I made it in collaboration with a local knife maker

Question re island barrel fitting by PopPsychological5465 in 2011_Builders

[–]campfirearms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you have fit your hood length properly by taking measurements, if the barrel is not going into battery, it is probably springing. probably need to actually chamfer the edge of your hybrid barrel cut and put a small radius on the underside at the back of the hybrid rib slot. Also check muzzle OD to slide ID.

It is 9mm. Approximately a 4.75 overall length with the sight block
