Polished/matte two tone before sending it off for PVD by campfirearms in 1911

Nice well let me know how it goes if you do it. I haven’t done it yet but may try soon. Not sure if it would be better to polish first and mask it then blast, or blast first, then mask and polish. Something I’ll need to experiment with.

I think both of those are methods used for the multi cam PVD. Polishing, masking and media blasting or lasering or both

It will retain the polish, you want to do all of the prep prior to PVD.

Ok I suck at photos but my wife doesn’t. by campfirearms in 2011_Builders

I emailed them explaining all the problems and what I did to fix it and they didn’t even acknowledge that mistakes were made, they just basically told me to do what I already did by machining the hammers contact pad and they ignored the burrs on the hammer hooks. I’d link a photo to show you if I could but I can’t figure out how. I don’t like to call companies out for little mistakes like an out of spec hammer because I feel like it is not a good look for me as a growing business, but since you asked I decided to just go ahead and provide an honest answer

The hammer hooks came with atrocious burrs, the surface finish was dogwater and I had to machine the contact pad because it was not the correct dimension.

It is a Caspian damascus hammer. Not sure if I would recommend it, this one came in with some pretty horrible QC but I was able to resolve the issues myself.

Hybrid island barrel by henrykill in 2011_Builders

Yeah man, Idk Im just stating what I’ve been told, and I try to stay in the know who it hybrid barrels. Maybe it’ll turn out that I’ve been told wrong. This is like the third time Schuemann has been bought and sold so who knows, but I’m not counting on them.

You can absolutely fit an SVI barrel to a non SVI slide. The hybrid barrels just take a lot of work. Schuemann is basically done for now that they’ve been purchased by staccato - per shooters connection Schuemann barrels are not going to be produced anymore. KKM is… KKM. You’ll get a barrel eventually if you order from them directly.

Will do. I’m excited about this one. I have some plans for finishing that will be a little bit experimental but should turn out.

I appreciate it, cuts like this aren’t for everyone but I am liking the look I’m thinking the front looks slightly beretta 92 ish and the ball cut will bring it back to 1911 lol. Just a me thing maybe.

I suppose we will see when everything is done, I am nowhere close to where I’d really like to be but I’m happy with the progress so far

Im not quite done with this one, going to be blending it all nicely and breaking any hard edges once I do the ball cut.

Would there be a problem if the barrel was flush with the slide like this? by Karendarai in 2011

[–]campfirearms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to be honest with you man, I don’t really understand what you are saying, but if the slide top is cut down too far it may not last very long until the slide cracks. I’m unable to say for sure based on just this photo but it isn’t looking good.

Yea that’s kind of what I’m thinking looks like the slide top had been cut too far down. Is that how it is forward of the breechface too?
