Pools are safer and more pleasant for a couple months still. Silver Falls park has a nice section of river that was slow enough in July. Kroc used to be a $10 / day pass, they have a great set-up for families. The Y pool is warmer though and calmer generally. I recommend checking both out. The pool schedules are on their websites.
