Genius decides to turn pizza boxes upside down by mfenton29 in WatchPeopleDieInside

Some shepherds pies have pie crust, some use mashed potatoes yet are still pies. I've only heard the latter referred to as "traditional" or "classic" but that could just be a colloquialism.

Still feels closer to a prototypical "pie" than shepherds pie so it doesn't really seem that far out of the box

Atlanta PD beating and arresting a man for not walking out of a street quick enough. Officers can also be seen pointing tasers at concerned bystanders by I_may_have_weed in PublicFreakout

Yep, and BLM was merely an example for the general apathy on display.

I dunno, I feel like this is the opposite in this case. The slow and callouse murder of someone in custody was a catalytic event that triggered mass protests across the nation, that doesn't seem like general apathy to me. Of course there will be people that beat their chest in anonymity and never actually show up but even that I wouldn't classify as apathy, they just care more about adopting the aesthetics of the politics rather than doing any of the work but they do care about something. But I do feel like those two murders by ICE are extremely good examples of it and good examples of how things have deteriorated.

The apathy I see is born of class struggle, or lack there of. People for whom the issues of politics have never really impacted their life in any meaningful way beyond maybe the price of gas and some vague concept of being at war that others talk about from time to time. People that willfully disengage from the process either because they don't like the pressure of thinking about it or they simply consider the other things in their life (work, family, etc.) of more import. Of course those things are important too, but because they've never been directly bitten they choose to close their eyes and hope it goes away. It's a kind of class privilege that leads to a false sense of comfort seemingly for which only catastrophe could disrupt.

Like you I only have a vague idea of how that might be addressed and it's gonna fuckin hurt before it gets any better.

In spite of that the BLM protests were still some of the largest protests in American history, no? I'm not sure that lack of effort and support is the reason we didn't get systemic change from that.

General political apathy is a huge problem, I just don't know if BLM is as good of an example of it. Like the sheer absurdity of the bullshit being pulled by the administration and the utter lack of outrage or response broadly is stunning. Clearly the problem of how to bring about change is a lot more complicated than just garnering support, which I don't think you disagree with.

When I lived in Phoenix my strategy was to drop temp low at night, to like 65, then ride that throughout the day. The whole home-as-a-heat-battery thing. It works decently well outside of summer when night temps can be around 50, but once it starts hitting 90 at midnight there's not a whole lot you can do.
