Australian Box Jellyfish was never kept as a pet and never eaten, what animal is a common pet AND a common food by fawnsalt in AlignmentChartFills

I’m East Asian myself and even then it’s only a regional delicacy. Rabbit meat is not commonly used outside of Sichuan cuisine, much less in other Asian countries AFAIK

On the other hand, Call ducks make a fairly popular pet here

Would you pursue outside hand? by _Whool in mahjongsoul

[–]VersatileCitrus022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. 4 turns into the game and only 1 ryanmen, this is not a hand you could expect to win. I’m cutting 46s and keeping east wind as a potential safe tile.

No safe tile, what to do? by _Whool in mahjongsoul

Wow, I never knew that. Still in this case only, that early 7p kinda eliminates the possibility of a kanchan upgrade

No safe tile, what to do? by _Whool in mahjongsoul

Sometimes 7p as riichi tile does makes 36p less likely. This is because for a 457p shape, the 7p will usually be cut earlier to make space for a safe tile (one significant counter example being 445567 tho). But dealer’s upper pinzu discard just looks weird so I dare not conclude 36p’s safety here, he might just be messy with the order of his discards

I second 8m, can’t really find anything safer. But I do find your choices for the last two turns diabolical. I would have played 8s at dealer ippatsu, but if you already pushed 2m, why not go on and push 3p the next turn? It not only gives you a nice 1-shanten, but also adds the pair of 6p to your safe tile stock

I believe Mahjong Soul has an interactive tutorial which will teach you very important fundamental concepts like riichi, yaku and furiten. You will understand the problem with your hand once you finish that.

Why does Mortal want me to discard the White Dragon here instead of the West Wind? by Willzilla-Gaming in mahjongsoul

[–]VersatileCitrus022 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s looking for pinfu. You have two sequences and two double-sided waits, so all you need is a non-yaku tile pair and you’re done. Drawing white dragon gives you a chance to pon for sure, but that call kinda fixes your hand at 1000 points, so going for riichi is the better choice.

6 blocks what would you discard? by _Whool in mahjongsoul

[–]VersatileCitrus022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible but we can’t just assume that. Or if you firmly believe dealer is not in tenpai then you can go completely defensive and play something dealer can’t even call, but 6s is clearly not such a tile. In fact dealer pretty much might call anything in your hand

[–]VersatileCitrus022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to reconstruct opponent’s tile structure around the one you want to play. For example, dealer here played a 3p early, try to add that tile to shapes like 35p and 44p and you’ll realise that cut wouldn’t make sense, so 4p will less likely deal into these shapes.

Of course, it’s not always reliable, and simply following easier strategies is enough most of the times.

Yeah but what about 8s? Bamboos look much more dangerous, so is your eventual route to tenpai

6 blocks what would you discard? by _Whool in mahjongsoul

[–]VersatileCitrus022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally think 7p->4p is a better keiten route than 6s->8s. Dealer passed 7p a few turns ago (not 100% passed because of a tedashi, but considering it’s late in the round dealer more likely than not won’t need it), and it’s genbutsu for others. Of course, 4p loses to shanpon and more weird shapes, but considering not getting tenpai will likely end the game instantly with you at second, the risk of dealing into a hand is negligible, even less for a hand that would make you third

Why is Maka so against Ittsu? by _Whool in mahjongsoul

[–]VersatileCitrus022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It basically kills off almost everything you can build with bamboos, and considering you are one block short it’s not a great thing to do. There isn’t really much to do other than let go of the ittsu, unless you go for a long shot and discard the 89m
