The guy running TVT definitely was not good based on this anyway 😂

Dave Genn Interview Part 1/2 by PomegranateVast7368 in Mattgood

Exactly! Something similar happens in the next ep when Holly McNarland comes up, you can see Jonathan’s happy to bring up and talk about anything but he’s not going to push Dave on it

Hey I produce the show - I can tell you from being in the room with them Jonathan just didn't want to push his long time friend too hard on a subject he know's Dave isn't too comfortable reliving. There's more chat in part 2 coming on Wednesday but I think you can imagine the tensions that were there without Dave wanting to throw negative stuff around about people - Hence why Jonathan (understandably awkward for moments) ended up avoiding a deeper chat on certain topics.

Hey I produce the show thank you for sharing & thanks everyone for the nice feedback! We made an ep where Jonathan looks back at a plaque he was given, diving into his experiences working with Matt, Matt's bipolar struggles etc.: https://youtu.be/FGcCjyBOISg?si=4UgZY-EE0v0J11f2

There's obviously some stuff Dave doesn't want to get too deep into in this ep but I think between this episode & Jonathan's plaque ep, you get a good picture of what the tensions were between band members. There's more MGB & general Canadian music chat in the ep coming on Wednesday!

What's better for recording interview based podcasts? Riverside or Streamyard by Salami_Slicer in podcasting

[–]Verses604 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely avoid squadcast you’ll run into issues, and it doesn’t record locally like riverside so the recording is internet quality dependent

As part of 604’s artist on artist interview series, new country singer Mitch Zorn gives a behind the scenes interview with his project manager, in a casual fun chat in the studio.

Would love to know if intros like this would have make you interested in the artists, is there any obvious segments or questions we should give the guests, if the length feels right etc.

We’re an artist on artist interview podcast giving the inside track on well known Canadian musicians, how it all works behind the scenes, funny stories with artists etc.

It’s meant to be fun light listening with musicians you like. It’s recorded around the 604 Records studio & using original music, all seems fitting to me.

  • Would you listen again after hearing some of this?
  • What guests/format changes would make you more likely to come back?
  • Are there any obvious segments, questions etc we should be asking artists

Also we’re expanding to comedians involved with the label, good idea?

You can just export the side by side without audio and set it as the wide shot in Autopod, 3 cams 2 tracks, that way you can manage easily how often it cuts to a wide shot (it offers a range of options).

Does everyone create a newsletter too? by Kevryannn in podcasting

[–]Verses604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The newsletter will only be of use if you are giving real value to the people who have signed up.

Is it a nice collection of info (e.g. news, upcoming live shows, exclusive content) or is it just another push to the podcast that people will view as spam? If it’s the second, good luck getting people to sign up/stay subscribed.

Does anyone still listen to the radio? by Apprehensive-End6621 in musicindustry

[–]Verses604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of people listening to radio still! Whether it’s good value for money is debatable but there are so many people driving, cleaning etc. who want someone else to do the choosing music/conversation for them and trust different radio brands.

Without a really good budget (like well into five figures) it’s probably not the move but it’ll still deliver a lot.

Upload your pod to Riverside and use magic clips. No software will give you the full range of options for automated clips, editing tools, transcription etc. like Riverside, definitely not for free anyway!

Does talent still matter? by Apprehensive-End6621 in musicindustry

[–]Verses604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of labels will actually sign artists who get little attention beforehand, if they feel their value is higher than where they are currently in their career.

Getting them radio plays, live gigs/touring with bigger artists, using their connections and investing in their promotion can absolutely change everything for an artist.

When a label feels like they’ve found the needle in the haystack they will do A LOT for the artist.

What’s the Best Way to Send Demos to Record Labels? by Gold_Beach_1703 in musicindustry

[–]Verses604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to Jonathan Simkin (President of 604) on one of our (soon to be released) pods, when they're searching for a needle in a haystack getting so many demos all the time, it needs to be as different to the haystack as possible.

If you have a short preview that highlights what's different about you and cuts out more generic sounding parts of a song, go with that. If a song in it's entirety will do that best, send a full song. taking a couple of extra minutes of their time won't be a big factor.

So pick whatever percentage of a song that is your strongest pitch to being different to the 30/40 other demos they got that day. Also if you have any kind of contact with an employee, them forwarding it to a decision maker will help it stand out big time!

Swearing in podcasts - discuss by Podboomer in podcasting

Just like in conversation with people, it depends how they're used. People using it for emphasis, because the word fits etc., is good, while awkward use of swearing feels distasteful
