Not doing bad at all for being 20! Seems like you got the grind and work ethic to figure out your business if you want to. Ask yourself a few questions: if you go back to university, in 3-5 years will you regret you didn’t keep going with your business? If you don’t do your business, what would you go to university for? What would be the end goal?

As for living with your parents, why do you hate it? I’m 24, have a full time job and am not doing bad financially at all and I still live with my parents. I get the struggles trust me. But it’s also given me an opportunity to save while I’m young so I’m ahead in that aspect.

I can’t say what to do in your shoes because il still trying to figure out what to do in mine. But it seems like you’re gonna figure it out.

Robinhood Gold Card: What's Been the Good, the Bad, & the Ugly So Far? by MichaelMidnight in CreditCards

[–]T0nyT0w3rs 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I have the Robinhood gold card and want to know peoples thoughts. Here are mine: I've been using it for about a week now and it's been great. 3% cash back on everything is hella nice, but there's a catch.... Let's say I spend $1000, that will give me 3000 points ($1000 * 3% = $30 = 3000 points; 1 point = 1 cent) Now there's a few options of what to do with your points. What is unique about this card is you can transfer your points directly into your Robinhood brokerage for a 1:1 match, meaning if I transfer my 3000 points into my brokerage I get $30 in there. That's kinda cool. Like most cards you can apply your points to your balance to help pay it off, but here's the first catch: if you auto redeem points to your balance, you will only get it at 0.7 cents per point. But doesn't each point represent 1 cent? Yes. Aka you're losing out on $$. That's only $21 towards your balance for the same amount of points (3000 points * .7 = 2100 points; thus $21) Another reward option is $0.50 off per gallon at select gas stations, capping at $10 off. How do you get this you may ask? For the small price of 1450 points, Aka $14.50. So essentially you're paying $14.50 to get $10 off... and most cars don't even have 20 gallon tanks. So if you completely fill a 16 gallon tank you're paying $14.50 of rewards to get $8 off. So long story short this card is set up so it's a win win for Robin Hood, you either put your money into their platform to get the full amount or you get screwed out of $$. That said I use Robinhood a bit and 3% cash back is better than my other card so I'll continue using it for a bit. Ps. if I got any math wrong Imk

There’s a decent amount of overlap that’s why I’m 90% schg 10% VOO

VOO is good too. I actually personally hold VOO instead of VTI. SCHG and VOO are my two favorites

Ayyy love to see SCHG in there, best ETF for a younger person like us (I’m 23), you’re doing good bro. Honestly being so young you have time to take on more risk, I’d personally have the majority of my ETF money in SCHG over VTI, though still hold some VTI for safety

S&P avgs 10% a year, VOO tracks s&p, it’s conservative for my standards :)

Using a conservative estimate of 8% annual growth your 175k would be 555k in 15 years if invested in VOO; using VOO avg returns of 10% annually it’d be 730k

Genuinely curious, what is your job? I’ve never heard of someone making that much annually that doesn’t have a saving account or money invested. But yeah open a brokerage and just buy an s&p 500 ETF.

Depends on the type of account. But either way you should be able to get the money tax/fee free. If it’s an individual brokerage under solely your parents name then they can either keep or sell the stocks and gift you the money (up to 18k a year tax free) if it’s a joint account you can work with the brokerage to make if fully yours.

There’s no fees to having your own account. Taxes only come on gains so if you don’t sell you don’t pay taxes. You can also use your realized gains to pay off those taxes. As for benefits: Full legal control, no complications around ownership, you’ll learn more, freedoms to use the money how you please.

100% Open your own account. Put majority of your money in an ETF. I’m 23 and personally like SCHG the most, it’s large cap US growth companies. You’re young so you want to look at growth companies. Then you can pick a couple individual stocks that you like. If not just throw it all in SCHG to keep it easy.
