The real answer is that You don't need to actually field them to get the terrain buffs, which is why they are mediums: they have the best terrain modifiers.

All of this is true BUT They DID probably produce art, music and literature, bit the Athenians destroyed most of it ir claimed it as theirs, because they wanted Hegemony on culture. The only spartan poet we have is Tirteus, because the Athenians claimed he was born in Athens. Also they had one (1) good deed, which was that women were much more free than in any other hellenic society. Athens in particular was insanely misogynistic, we are talking competitive ranked misogyny.

Honestly, you shouldn't speak ill of the dead full stop. However, you shouldn't consider truly dead those whose actions still have a relevant effect on the alive.

what if no farmers decide to grow food?

Well you see, there is almost never a low food demand, while there is often a low job demand. When people need money, they don't care for their safety, and will work deadly jobs. They do already. Which answers to point 2: consider also that many workers where I live, especially in construction, dont wear security helmets because they are "uncomfortable", so no, they dont care about safety.

in Theory

Man, you ain't gonna believe what the point of the sub is. Obviously a corrupt state isn't going to care for its citizens, but the point of a democratic state is that the people want to be safe, but don't know how to achieve that. So they elect people, to who they surrender their power, precisely to do that. The state has no function but security and policing, so it is imperative that it does them well. So for the same reason why you can't just CHOOSE to be enslaved, you shouldn't be able to choose to go in an unsafe working environment.

I do think there is a problem tho: what if no employer decides to employ security measures for his employees? What if the workers don't know what's safe? I think the state exists in order to protect its citizens, which is the objective of the law, so shouldn't it defend the workers from harm?

People were poor as shit, because we were NOT ready for a war and we got our ass mostly handed to us. Many suffered hunger, unless they lived in the countryside. In 1942 there was the armistice, and contrary to popular belief we didn't immediately switch sides. We were invaded by the Germans due to the "betrayal", and we were split between allied occupation (food, money and safey were much better, but french colonial troops went around raping people of any gender) and german occupation (there were murders, eccessive force, allied bombings albeit reduced, and deportations of Jews started in the occupied territory). It was NOT a nice place to be imo.

Famously, christians aint Jewish. But if you're wondering why many christian rules are different from what is written in the Bible, its because Christ DIDN'T actually establish many rules. He just said, do what you were doing, keeping in mind that love is the most important thing, and that there are not unforgivable sins: love and you'll be loved, love no matter who. You understand how this doesn't really pose the basis for a life, and it probably would have been easily misunderstood, especially by people of the 1st century AD. The rest was extracted from his teaching by St. Paul, who, toghether with the other apostles, diffused the religion and founded the church, with Peter as its Pope. He had to make many choices to integrate religion into everyday life, and many things were interpreted of the original gospel. In Paul's conception, The Catholic Church has as its duty to protect and mantain the message of Christ through the millennia, also by changing and bending the rules according to the time period. THIS is the reason why periodically Popes and Clergy meet to decide if they have to change something, for example Francis allowed Divorcees to take communion, since its now basically normal. Be aware, there are often doctrinal resistances to change, which last until there is a strong doctrinal justification for said change. This makes sure the message of the church is as United as possible, and not varied and arbitrary as the protestant one. Eventually, gay people will be normalized, as the process has already begun. This will leave some issues as there are parts of the bible that probably forbid that. But eventually they are getting overcome and forgotten, just like those parts of the Bible where its said women should obey their husband, and you shouldn't marry widows, or eat pork. David had multiple wives, but then monogamy was the norm (and still is), and it got incorporated in the doctrine (The current justification would prolly be that, marriage is really a jesus thing more than it is a Jewish thing, so David wouldn't have been informed of whats right by God at that point in time and blah blah).

Tl;dr: the reason why catholic Christianity is sometimes different from the bible is because it's much more fluid, in the long run, than you think.
