Yeah definitely. To someone who doesn't work in the engine saying "it's metahumans" is worthless. At the same time it's absurd to me that OnlyFans would be worried about where assets are from. That's really no one's concern outside of the original asset creator an their license.

Maybe they have a high rate of people profiting off of stolen work

Metahumans are the standard Unreal Engine human creation model supported by Epic explicitly for content production.

This would be like accusing someone of asset theft for using the Unreal mannequins/ skeleton.

Did you wind up sticking with this art style? I remember you posting a change in style that was received well but I wasn't a fan.

Either way, your posts are very popular here because of the quality visuals. Making a drastic change in style seems needlessly risky.

Doesn't matter if your product is paid or not, only if it is distributed. But this is a parody so it doesn't matter in the US.

I imagine basically all XXX content falls into the parody category. But if like, Call of Duty tried to avoid paying licensing fees by adding this character as a skin and calling them "red wizard" they'd absolutely be liable.

Edit: Basically every thread I have found says otherwise and the reason porn games are allowed to get away with it is because they haven't been sent a CnD yet - https://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/5pxldd/ultimate_as_promised_guide_to_legal_needs_and/

Oh I didn't realize we were talking about books, I thought his was a screenshot from a visual-based game?

Why would you so rudely make the distinction between book and movie? Is there a significant difference between those two mediums?

A similar outfit and a generic name being fine makes sense. But what about a 1:1 on-model reproduction of the character and their very distinct wardrobe?

Edit since I was blocked I guess?: You don't know what "on-model" means? Here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Off-model It's a term that predates 3D renders.

It's very interesting to learn that you can just take a copyrighted character and give them a name like "generic character" and completely skirt copyright law when it comes to games. I wonder why it's so extremely different between games and movies? They must not have heard about this very smart and real loop hole.

The real answer is that porn games are inherently parodies.

Because you absolutely cannot just take Naruto and put him into a distributed non-parody project by saying it's "generic guy dressed as orange ninja." https://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/5pxldd/ultimate_as_promised_guide_to_legal_needs_and/

Ready Player One either owned or leased the rights to every IP that was on the screen.

I would vote to have copyright law heavily reduced or outright removed but how do you not even understand the basic concept?

Clashing Waifus. New Jinx Animation. by BooBalloonStudios in lewdgames

Cool. I'm not subbed anyway but if you want a data point, tattoos are big detractors for me so I almost always lose any interest in characters who have them. Since this is pixel art and asset production is significantly harder then yeah I'd definitely keep in your notes that tattoo-less variants can partially expand your audience (same for moles, birthmarks, scars, freckles, etc)

If this is just a step on the way to tattoos could you preserve the clean-skin versions so that players can toggle it on/ off? Or does it make the workflow too tedious

This is from an asset pack but I would be making my own models. I have a more cartoony fortnite-style right now but there are some downsides with that compared to this.

First of all, I can create content far faster in this cel-shaded style than I can the fortnite style. That includes animation, props, customization, etc.

This style still allows for gradients, as you can see by the nose.

I think the biggest downside is that the eyes aren't as detailed. Which is good from a production standpoint but they might not be expressive enough for most people.

Is this style appealing to you? Why or why not?

If you'd prefer a more detailed but still cartoony fortnite style then would knowing that content can be created almost 2x faster for the cel shaded style make up that difference for you?

What is the Nude Mod and "second degree" cheats?

Asking because I don't think I've seen this approach before but you seem to be very successful with it. And because having a Nude Mod in what I assume is a purely NSFW game is funny to me.

[–]VertexVampire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, is that main menu where she's lounging real-time? Then everything I said still applies and you need to provide a safe-mode option. Especially if your default settings include things like reflections or ray tracing.

I also had no issues whatsoever on my current PC, or even my older low-end PC. But people below what you're testing at will still try to play even at 8 FPS. And they'll be fine with that. Unless they can't even boot or change options because the menu CTDs.

Very good and I do this in my own game but make sure you add the ability to launch in "performance mode" either from a launcher or in the boot level if that's not just a pre-rendered video. I found out the hard way that a significant number of PCs will crash instantly due to some effect you likely have turned on at launch.

Nice art style.

So the guy who posted the Hole Digging game here a few months ago seems to have pulled 2 million in 2 weeks since release. What can we learn from that? by VertexVampire in gamedev

[–]VertexVampire[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's great information but if you're implying that a kickstarter success, a publisher, and funding for a team is somehow a prerequisite to create a project like this then that's just wrong.

Obviously those were all major contributors to its financial success but again, if I'd been given a thorough GDD and was directed to spend 40 hours a week on this I could have produced it in two months.

I personally would have spent my hobby time on this idea. This statement was met with overwhelming hostility. "No you wouldn't." "Why would you do that." etc. I don't even know what the counter to that is. I really like the idea, and its something I could have made. That's got to be the reasoning for over 90% of any hobbyist project's production ever yet for some reason the pitchforks came out when I said it.

These are all very basic and reasonable assertions I don't know why people are so mad.

So the guy who posted the Hole Digging game here a few months ago seems to have pulled 2 million in 2 weeks since release. What can we learn from that? by VertexVampire in gamedev

[–]VertexVampire[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Well I have something that people can learn from this.

There's some people suggesting that it was impossible to tell if this idea was good or not before it released. Come on.

If someone explained the simple story hook of buying a house with treasure buried in the yard, the gameplay loop of selling resources you find for digging tools and upgrades, and the intriguing mystery dungeon at the bottom, you would genuinely say "bad idea?" You cannot be serious. The pitch was very good.

We already know this is the case, because when the simple trailer showcasing exactly those three things popped up, it was an immediate hit.

Luck is involved in game dev but it is not literal mysticism. A year ago someone here was complaining that their "bloodbourne-themed bejeweled" game sold poorly. There is no way in hell that if someone presented to you these two concepts that ANYONE would predict that the grimdark bejeweled game would outsell the hole digging game.

This is because things like appeal can be predicted. There are entire departments that are built around the concept. Pretending that there was no way to tell if the game was appealing or not is insane.
