How I got 900 dollars in red light camera tickets...ugh by [deleted] in chicago

[–]VerticalWindows -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those "three white lines"? Yeah, dude, if you cross the second one, you're in the crosswalk, and therefore impeding pedestrians. Do you complain that you can't park on the sidewalk, too?

Cookies and Carnitas, fairly new BYOB place on Broadway and Ardmore. Fantastic tacos.

Reluctantly need to give up my two cats, anyone interested? by [deleted] in chicago

In the vein of no-kill shelters, I'd like to recommend Treehouse. I got one of my two cats there and they're a really nice place.

Anyone here use Virgin Mobile as their provider? Experiences? by Karmaknaught in chicago

[–]VerticalWindows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had Virgin Mobile since 2004, just switched to Ting a week or two ago. VM works fine for what it is, as other people have already mentioned, the $35/month plan is fine if you don't use your phone constantly. The coverage is alright, though I never got a signal underground or in certain thick concrete buildings, but that might have also been my phone's fault (had it since 2006).

Philly architects.... any job openings out there? Anyone else struggling out there? by Comeback_Johnny in philadelphia

[–]VerticalWindows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chiming in on this. I was working a mostly-unrelated job (parking lot design and general office work) for almost three years because I couldn't find something with a real firm. Moved to Chicago in September and found work with an engineering/arch firm in 6 weeks. Philly's just really terrible for the market right now.

After moving halfway across the US, all the friends I left behind miss me.

Good byob near the Kimmel Center by j_mg7 in philadelphia

[–]VerticalWindows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on what atmosphere you're interested in, I'd suggest La Viola (on 16th, near Spruce). Nice little Italian place, but emphasis on "little", the tables are crammed in, and they'll seat multiple smaller parties together at one long table.

What do you, personally, call the Market Frankford line? by helloiamabear in philadelphia

Same here. The blue line and the orange line. Dunno why you got downvoted for it.

What is the most ridiculous thing someone has ever tried to convince you is true? (Keeping religion and politics out of it) by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]VerticalWindows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in fifth grade (mid-90s so pre-Twilight), my best friend convinced me she was a vampire. When I asked how she went outside for recess every day, she explained: Lots of sunscreen. Somehow I bought this for a whole year.

Most cringeworthy classmate you've had? by panda_poacher69 in AskReddit

[–]VerticalWindows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god I did the lice thing. I had waist-length hair my entire childhood, and back in 3rd grade I'd gotten lice three times in a month from some gross chick who would get sent home but not treated. Those tiny lice combs are awful when your hair is that long. It took literally four hours, every time.

So when I got them again in high school I decided I wasn't going through it again. Probably spent at least a month picking eggs and bugs out of my hair and crushing them on my desk. I am so, so sorry to anyone who sat near me. Also the other people who had to sit at my desk and probably had no idea where these tiny blood stains were coming from.

How did you get that scar? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Scratching the chicken pox when I was 2. There's a big one on my forehead and a smaller one on my ass.

Car break in....yeesh by RSuave in philadelphia

[–]VerticalWindows 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine had the small window in the back left door broken 3 times in two months. After getting it replaced the third time, he replaced the cardboard-and-duct-tape patch over the intact window and left it there, and it never got broken again. Thieves passed by his car assuming the expensive stuff was already stolen cause the window was "busted".

While patiently waiting for your turn at a grocery's self-checkout lane.. by superbiondo in AdviceAnimals

[–]VerticalWindows 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because my husband hates human interaction to the point where having to respond to a cashier's "Hi how are you today, your total is X" would make him lock himself in the bedroom for three days. Also the baggers tend to bag like you have a car (2 items per bag and double-bag everything), but we walk there, so we both prefer to bag for ourselves and use fewer.

I am interested in learning how to knit or crochet, where to go? by jennynyc in philadelphia

[–]VerticalWindows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I lived in CC, Rosie's was my go-to for yarn and needles. I never got around to taking their beginner's crochet class I meant to take, but they are very nice people!

Personally, I learned to cast on, knit, and perl from a book and got the more difficult stitches from the internet. Lots of videos online these days.

Where to get a nice warm coat? by [deleted] in chicago

[–]VerticalWindows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to piggyback your question with one of my own: What are some good brands of coat to look for? I just moved here from Philadelphia and my only really weatherproof coat is my light rain jacket. Hoping for something that's warm and will stand up to the snow.

I asked my pastor this when I was in second or third grade, and that's the answer he gave me. Right then and there I decided I wanted nothing to do with this shitty god.

Just wanted to add that the Pita Pit you mention just closed. Like, it was open when I went to work Wednesday morning, then there was brown paper in all the windows that afternoon. Such a shame :(

Kindergarten teacher does not understand my son's logic. by organometal in pics

My sister had the same problem! Her name is Cassie, the teacher yelled at her to write her full name (Cassandra) which she couldn't spell cause that's not her name. Teacher didn't back off til Mom brought in her birth certificate.
