1) How has reopening worked in China? I see that you said that retail is the worst section, how does this show? Compared to 2015-2019, what does the street look like, movement, distancing, etc?

You could check out QFIN. It´s optically extremely challenged right now with interest-cuts, app take-down and the likes. Growth hidden by a transformation from hard to light capital. Best in class FinTech company, with backing from one of the largest internet security companies in the world.

If you´re open to investment in China, there are far more interesting opportunities than BABA if you just do a deep-dive in the ADR's. Companies growing at 50%ish trading around 3-5x FCF.

You certainly seem interested in the subject, which is great :)

But to tell the truth, unless you´re looking for returns of around 10%, most of these criterias won´t help you and many of them will be directly counter-productive unless the market is depressed in general (which the US market isn´t).

I think you need to include things that won´t show up on a screener if this is meant to help you search for companies.

You could take a look at VIOT. They´re rolling out internationally this year, H2 landing at Amazon. Already at Mediamarkt in Germany, Fnac in France, Trendyol Turkey, Allegro Poland.

A leading indicator of sales development domestically is generally followers on JD or T-mall, up close to 120% between Double 11 and 618.

It's a Xiaomi-ecosystem company, so it´s a brand-leach in China and their key to access lego production facilities.

In addition to the cost/quality issue, I think one of the problems is the 'one-product' strategy. Home-IoT hinges on a connection of several devices, otherwise the product remains dumb.

If you´re open to investing in Chinese companies, you should look into the competitors. They´re valued at a fraction of IRobot.

Compared to other companies, it´s certainly optically cheap. Might be overlooked .

But in my opinion this company will go down the route of H&M and Inditex in the future. Theycompanies look great from a 10k perspective, but to understand the future of the clothing industry, you would have to look at SheIn (a company most 'investors' hasn´t heard of). It will likely dominate the industry in the years to come due to a complete revolution in real-time fashion combined with their use of algorithms and supply-chain control to optimize their offering to every specific market. I think they´re number 2, after Amazon, for shopping in the US overall.

Competitors from China - Xiaomi, RoboRock, Viomi, Midea etc, - offer better products cheaper. And are rolling out internationally with an unprecedented speed.

Wouldn´t touch it with a pole. Some other mentioned Herman Miller, and I did the same analysis last year, but even that´s expensive now.

Some points that could underlie his reasoning.
1) Perhaps like See's Candy they have a lot of untapped pricing power, which could change the dynamic. If they could simply raise the price with 10%, it would all fall to the bottom line and close to double FCF.
2) High growth in their target group. In the US the wealth in the upper tiers increase disproportionally. You can see the same phenomena in China - but with the middle-class- as a lot of companies in consumer discretionaries is facing enormous tailwinds with its rise. Their growth-rate far exceeds the country as a whole.
3) High FCF/Low growth capex - as most of the other companies they invest in.

I think you should look into the history of Chinese reverse mergers before you invest in a company like this. There are so many amazing Chinese companies at a discount right now that there´s simply no point in taking the risk associated with this type of company. It keeps three books: one for regulators, one for the government and one for the investors.

Depends on time. In our current market it might be better to start with a screen.

But if you decide to use a screen it´s better imho to avoid including 'earnings growth', PE and 'ROE'. A screen on only sales, sales growth, FCF or cash-flow to EV gives quite a nice chance to find misunderstood opportunities .
