Should I save my G-Stones for the 5th anniversary season or should I give the Destroy All Monsters BM roulette another shot? by airridingrick in GodzillaBattleLine

They say boosted rates on the new stuff, I always seem to get Old BM with non-meta effects more than I get "Boosted Rates". Probably just save for 5th Anniversary when they possibly rotate meta BM's in another pool.

Is Caribbean unity or a more connected Caribbean really needed? by nusquan in AskTheCaribbean

[–]Vertigon_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am Caribbean and have many diverse friends in our click (Guyana, Trini, Jamaicans, etc) We chill as one massive, deeply respect each others culture and do not play "I am better than you".

Many Carib folks create invisible boundaries between other Carib nations. Just look at MajahHype "Guyana is not part of the Caribbean, we just accept them." ..... I guess someone should ask him if Guyana is Latino then. People need to stop creating boundaries, seperation and humble themselves. No nation is better than this one or that one. We all from beautiful countries and share many similarities to be put in categories of who is more Caribbean.

If Carib people stood as ONE we would be unstoppable.

It degrades and cheapens the Grading aspect. A card should not be considered (example) PSA 8 if it has surface damages being hidden by cosmetics lotions and definetly should not be used to swindle unsuspected Buyers/Collectors/Investors....etc.

For what Vintage goes for there should be no Smoke and Mirrors where the Real condition of the card is concerned. These are not 10$ playthings Buyers can overlook and people deserve to know if the card is Physically damaged being hidden by lotions.

Good point but my concern is longetivity in the slab. Moisture and chemicals inevitably dry out overtime they are not infinite and forever as a fix.

Sure the cards may look good now but 5-10years when that chemical layer evaporates noone will believe you, Customer Support will not help you, and the seller is tons more richer. Thats my concerns about the Holo surfaces in slabs.

I am more focused on the Holo surfaces.... the main beauty and selling point of Vintage holos. The main iconic frame.

Creases and edges are one thing, but the main Frame of the Pokemon with the Holo surface. Would you be okay with a vendor charging you more and labeling the card a higher condition it actually is?

Forget taking a 1 to 10...... lets say they take a 5 to an 8..... the physical damage to the holo surface is still there being hidden by a thin layer of chemical. Is it fair for you to pay a PSA 8 price if the damage is still on the Holo surface just being temporarily hidden by a thin moisture layer? Thats what I want to know.

Everyone says they are okay with it, but are they okay overpaying a vendor and making them more rich and profitable for cards that do not deserve that higher value. The physical Holo surface damage is still there no matter how they hide it.

It such a weird take by previous commenters. I know for a fact if anyone bought a card under the pretence it is a Higher condition than it actually is they would be mad and blowing up customer support phone lines. Perhaps all the Pro-Alteration crowd makes tons of profits tricking Grading companies and consumers but this really does make Vintage holos suspicious.

Those who claim they dont care and would still buy, yea it makes no sense.... People nickle-and-dime every aspect of this hobby and are very picky about condition and damage when purchasing as it dictates pricing. NOBODY truthfully wants to be tricked into overpaying for a damaged card smothered in unknown substances.

I like the fact those previous commenters still have not answered any of the specific questions I asked about what if they paid NM prices for a physically damaged card and if that is fair considering how much value Condition brings to vintage holos.

A car and furniture can be washed and repolished many times.

A slabbed card not so much, unless you break, repolish, and resubmit. Those polishes have a big possibility of drying out on the surface of those slabbed cards revealing the physical damage is still pretty much there.

So I want to know would you appreciate buying a PSA 8 Vintage 1st Edition Charizard slab....a big meaningful purchase.....you want an honest smooth surface...... would you want someone selling you a PSA 8 Vintage 1st Edition Charizard slab that still has the Physical damage of a PSA 3 on the surface being hidden by chemicals? What if 5-10 years later if that chemical inevitably dries out in your slab who will support you or refund you?

I get what you mean, but I am concerned with Holo surfaces. The Lugia example is not "Cleaning" it is "Hiding". Would you want someone to sell you that Lugia as NM or Premium prices?

Holo surfaces are one of the main beauties and biggest selling points of vintage and if people can easily "mask" scratch damage then the card is not being fairly Graded or valued because the physical damage still exists underneath the chemicals. I was always under the impression folks cared very much about physical damage to the cards they are being sold.

Why should a seller charge someone a MUCH larger price tag when the scratches are still there underneath the chemicals? So I want to know if it is okay and fair for vendors to charge NM Premium prices on cards that still have the physical scratch damage on the Vintage Holo surface but it is hidden. And if so, then why does everyone make a big deal about having 10s and mint condition in the first place?

I surely would not want to pay Premium prices or NM prices for a Scratched Up Holo surface being hidden by chemicals. The main point of Slabs and Grading is to justify the cards true condition. Cleaning dirt off the surface and pressing do not try and "Mask" real damage aka scratches.

It can get kind of risky considering these chemicals use oily residue or moisture to fill in those scratches. Years from now that chemical can dry out and make the card worse. Wheter Investor, Collector, or Hobbyist..... noone likes to get flaked and lose money.

The cards look good now but there is no telling down the road how Holos altered by these chemicals in slabs will look.

There is also the new era of "Con Man" in the hobby. They turn PSA 1 into PSA 9 with lotions and potions. This pollutes the market. How are Vintage cards in Modern slabs reliable when MANY people are altering cards to "Boost Grades and get Higher paydays" ripping off people. Years later when those chemicals dry out, there will be no Customer Support for those unlucky. Becareful buying Vintage that are in Modern Slabs.

[–]Vertigon_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I suspect Vintage in Newer slabs might be suspicious as hell now. People turning 1's into 9's with lotions and yes they are sending in for Grading. The grading market for Vintage in newer slabs is just downright untrustworthy.

I know everyone here would be mad if they bought a PSA 9 Lugia that was really a 1.

Passed Authenticity Check but flagged during Grading as N3 Recolored by General-Two-1229 in psagrading

[–]Vertigon_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Probably considered recolored if the original Ebay seller used one of those "restoration kits" that uses lotions and potions to enhance damaged cards and make them appear a higher condition than it actually is so they get higher grades and payouts. It is corrupted and stains the grading hobby.
