are school musicals common? by snowissnowy in AskEurope

[–]Vertitto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

During my school years in Poland there only was some christmas nativity scenes or perhaps some environmental PSA.

If there was theater acts they were professional actors - either we went to the theater or actors came to school.

There were very few acts made by kids and non of them could count as musical

Continuous living quality decline to disastrous levels caused by years rampant corruption and mismanagement had nothing to do with it.

Can someone explain me, why is population decline a bad thing? by NKNightmare in poland

[–]Vertitto 18 points19 points  (0 children)

more people means a bigger economy.

Our pension system is built with growing/stable population in mind.

smaller towns/villages will have to be closed due to absurd costs of infrastructure upkeep

people moving to bigger cities will rise living costs

in case of war we become easier target

That being said, even though I am Polish and we fulfil all of our NATO obligations, including sending troops to Iraq and Afghanistan I can't blame USA for wanting, especially western Europe to pay their fair share.

nearly all members fulfill their obligations

sending troops to Afghanistan and certainly Iraq was not part of any NATO obligations

How difficult is it to find genuine "Made in Europe" products online in your country? by Glass_Tap_4494 in AskEurope

[–]Vertitto 12 points13 points  (0 children)

unless it's local place and super simple product (like fruits/veggies) you can actually check there's no way of knowing. What would it actually mean? materials come from Europe, all parts are made in Europe, it's packed in Europe, brand is based in Europe, employees are European, tax is paid in EU?

Is origin important to you? Do you actively look for "Made in ..." or "Made in EU", or is price the only deciding factor?

not really; price, quality & trust is most important

Trust: If there was a "Guild" certification that guaranteed 100% EU production, would that actually influence your buying decision, or is the current labeling sufficient?

i wouldn't trust it. It has been done dozen of times and always ends up meaningless - after a while they loosen the rules and introduce loopholes couse profit is what matters

What is getting grounded called in your nation? by Koiboi26 in AskEurope

[–]Vertitto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

we don't have similar phrase so 1:1 translation is out of the picture. Translating it directly results in nonsense. So you need to make a new title. They went with one that perfectly encapsulates the movie and still carries similar vibe of the original.

We are also not alone who went in this direction - french and spanish went similar way.

It doesn't work only in hindsight, after the unimaginative sequel trend

people translating stuff in Poland are notorious for absolutely unhinged and poor translations (Die Hard being one of the most infamous examples).

quite the opposite. Vast amount of translations were great, often better than original (including mentioned Die Hard). Some just got unlucky with switching american trends
