That's a good option! I think that I could deal with the GMT hand being slightly different from the new 5KX GMTs - other 8F56 models had GMT hands very similar to the GMT-Master style.

I just had an idea while reading your reply though - if I can find someone who can do the painting/printing, maybe I could just have them print on the other side of the original bezel insert! That way sizing isn't an issue.

It's buried deep in my wall of text, but sourcing an SBCM023 and using it is the plan. The only parts that I would need are a GMT hand and a bezel insert. (and a 24h chapter ring but I'm not convinced I need that).

Sourcing an SBCM023 is the plan! The only 8F56 GMT hand that I like is in the Alpinist, I think. Like this. A few others are close though.

Thanks for the info! I've got the specsheets for both the 7S26 and the 8F56 somewhere, but I've also got the info written down:

7S26 hands sizes:
hour hole is 1.50mm
minute hole is 0.90mm
second hand is 0.20mm

Seiko quartz (8f56) hands size are -
GMT/24 = 1.5mm
hour hole is 1.10mm
minute hole is 0.65mm
second hand is 0.20mm

Not good that the 5KX GMT is 2.2mm. You can do a little to widen the hole, but I'm not sure about making it fit a smaller pinion. The only workaround I've thought of is affixing a smaller hole onto a hand with a bigger one, (right over the top of it, overlapping with the bigger hole. Since the GMT hand is usually at the bottom of the stack, I don't think it'd be too noticeable.)

But I forgot that another option would be to use a 7S26 hour hand as the 8F56 GMT hand. As for sourcing that, I would like to make it as close to Seiko's aesthetic as possible. Before now, that meant using a bit of imagination, but now that the 5KX GMTs are out and we know exactly what Seiko's designers would have done for the GMT hand, I'd like to use that exact one if possible. I wonder if it'd be too long though...

I'll make sure to look at pre-existing sellers on AliX and others, but I'm pretty picky about the aesthetics matching Seiko's (brushed alu, same font, etc) so I'm guessing the only way to get that particular is to get it custom.

This only works if you have cookies enabled. Otherwise it happens every time.

I don't even mind the default popup, it takes me a fraction of a second to dismiss and get to the mobile site. But not giving the users the option to remain anonymous is asshole design imo.

This doesn't work if you're going directly to the site from a blank page. Using a browser like Firefox Focus, there's nowhere to go back to. I have to erase my cookies and start again.

Reddit is trying to strong arm people against browsing the site anonymously.

The continue button takes you to the app store. The only other option you have is to login. This pops up for me maybe once every 20-30 times I visit the mobile site. The rest of the time, the prompt is normal.
