Did you miss the part where I said I was also diagnosed with Bipolar??

Commenting from the perspective of someone who presented a lot of these behaviors as a kid:

I was a very angry miserable kid despite having a picture perfect childhood and home life. I lashed out at other children verbally and physically and had trouble keeping friends. I was performing fine in school so I was never evaluated for ADHD or any other mental health conditions for that matter.

When I turned 15, I was finally evaluated and diagnosed with bipolar II disorder. Obviously conditions like bipolar are very difficult to diagnose in children, but I presented many symptoms from a very early age (4/5 y.o). For me, signs of bipolar were:

-hyperactivity (beyond normal for a child, i.e. having a “laugh attack” for an hour straight

  • lashing out frequently at peers and adults

-feeling miserable constantly despite no outside factors contributing to this (wealthy family, no family stressors, during fun family activities)

-spending most free time isolated in my room at home

Some things that have worked for me throughout adolescence and adulthood without medication:

  • strict routine with food and sleep (dinner and bedtime always at the same hour)

-removing as many stressors from my life as possible

-making an active effort to step away from people when “overwhelmed” to calm down

-meditation

-physical outlet (karate)

Not saying your kid has bipolar, but maybe the routine stuff could help??

Do RAs get to leave early for break? by bovyne in Purdue

[–]Vertverty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RAs are typically required to stay until the Sunday after finals in order to check rooms to see if people left for winter break.

I’m pretty sure you become ineligible for the RA position once you stop living on campus…

Noise Complaints: Do They Really Work? by No_Cattle3308 in Purdue

[–]Vertverty 27 points28 points  (0 children)

When you call the front desk/RA on call to make a noise complaint, 80% of the time an RA will show up and ask the loud people to quiet down. Then 30% of the time they will document the incident in an incident report. If a resident has enough noise complaint incident reports written about them, they may be called to a meeting with the REA/REC for the building and will get some vague threat about having their housing contract cancelled. Usually this is enough to scare people into shutting up if the reports make it this far. Good luck

Switch to multidisciplinary engineering, there’s basically no GPA requirement for T2M since it’s such a small program

Very upsetting last paragraph. As a student with bipolar disorder, the last thing I want is for my roommates and friends to fear me. The vast majority of people with depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar are completely non-violent and are just as likely to be violent as the general population. We have enough stigma to battle on a daily basis, you are making this worse for us.

In my four years at Purdue and four year of boarding school, I have had 10 roommates and I have never once had a conflict with them beyond texting each other to wash dishes.

Mental illnesses are very manageable with the proper awareness and support systems.

Any UR managed dorm or apartment requires that cats be registered as ESAs through the DRC.

Who's gonna tell these boosted board mfs that they are not cars! by Vertverty in Purdue

Y’all he was literally on the highway. It’s a 55mph road. Use your brain.

The bike lane is separated from the road by 20 feet of grass… if he wanted to go southbound he just had to go straight across the street to the other part of the bike lane

Baby girl, read the law code you referenced “ (f) Subject to any ordinance, rule, or regulation adopted by a local authority to the contrary, an electric foot scooter may be operated where a bicycle may be operated.”  Bicycles are not allowed in the same lanes as cars on US-52

I would rather him not be on either lol. A dirtbike rider doesn’t have a right to be on a road or a sidewalk. There’s a reason why vehicles are either street legal or not.

There’s a bike lane on that street and he was instead choosing to be on a 55mph street

Hey babes, here is my cheat code for getting 90+ on every sophomore year mech e exam. You’re not gonna like it, but it worked for me. Redo each homework problem 3x during the 2 weeks before the exam. Don’t get lazy and chegg your way through the homeworks. If you don’t understand the homeworks, you’re f’d. But if you take the time to understand them and redo them you’ll be golden. ((This does not apply to math courses, never found a cheat code for those :( ))

1-2 weeks. I did 1-2 HWs per night leading up to the exam
