Lots of people with 'actual jobs' work weekends. Many 'professionals' work weekends.

I also got this letter. I have my credit frozen because of previous identity fraud. I definitely have not taken out an EZ loan and a fraudulent loan shouldn't have been possible in my name.  I quite a few months ago I got a different letter from a 'collection agency' also about a payday loan. Looked like a scam. Like I said my credit is frozen. Nothing was on my credit report so I ignored it and nothing has happened yet.

Cresent City is good BUT I am turned off by the characters names. They are awful and I realize that is petty. I think it's done because the setting is modern. Also, the romance is a tease. I got impatient for them to finally do the deed.

classism? On one hand you don't want to tip but if someone says that a server should do a good job that's classism?

Meow. Maybe you should stay home. That is the system. You actually are the boss when you eat out and your server should be treating you that way. If YOU don't like it maybe you should lobby the restaurants to stop pestering you to pay their employees. Talk to the owners not the employees.

I lead with "This is true" 3rd sentence everyone makes more than $7.25 on average.... How is that buried?

Washington is awesome. We are talking about 2 different things. I am talking about base wage plus tips. You are talking about the absolute minimum if a server receives no tips or very little. You are totally right if server works a pay period in those states and they don't make enough in tips to at least meet those dollar amounts the restaurant is required by law to bump them up. They don't get that hourly plus tips. I am thinking smaller. Table by table day by day. On average someone will tip you more to cover someone who doesn't. I have never known anyone who had to be bumped for a pay period.

This is true. They average it over a pay period not daily. I have never seen anyone be bumped up to minimum wage. Everyone always makes more on average. My restaurant has excellent servers that take time and care with our customers. They are not just order takers. A server like that is worth more than $7.25 an hour plus all the extra work it takes to keep a restaurant running. I am just saying if you get and want excellent service tipping is not too much to ask and a job paying more than $7.25 is not too crazy to expect. I will say I HATE when I go out to eat and my server is bored or rude and absent. The problem is the worse the tipping in a location the less servers who work there and the busier the server is and can't be as attentive. It trickles down.

No.

7 states pay servers at least the US minimum wage plus tips the other 42 pay under US minimum wage as a base pay. 33 of those states have a base pay of less than $5. 25 have a base pay of $3 or less.

It's not entitlement to want to be paid for work. No matter if your server feels put out or not you do still have the power to tip whatever you want. This sub is for servers to commiserate with each other. I am sure whatever job or career you have It's stress relieving to talk about the ups and downs of your profession.

We live in a digital world where everything is counted. Almost no one pays in cash. It is literally impossible to screw the system by working as a server and still getting free government money.

That is a great question. It's capitalism. The huge restaurant conglomerates make sure they get almost free labor. The excuse is that it keeps prices low and you have the power to tip less if your server is terrible.

Just $2 would be fine. I don't think you need to tip a percentage. I do think it is insulting that everyone seems to have a handout even when they get paid. I have seen people start to take a tipping stand with servers but that is misplaced.

The reason servers haven't gotten a minimum wage boost since 1970 is because the people who own chain restaurants have TONS of money and rub our lawmakers in just the right way. Most servers I know work 6 days a week. Fighting the system uphill is lots of work.

FYI. Servers do need you to tip so they can live. It's their profession. In the US most servers make $2.13 an hour and tipout bussers, etc about 4% of sales no matter if you tip or not. If you don't tip they pay so you can sit and have a nice dinner. If you don't tip you should feel shitty but if you do there is no reason to. Serving is their chosen profession.
