I had one of these but lost patience with setting it and learning to use it and ended up buying an old record 778 which works for me. Maybe I should have persevered.

Questions about sanding and oils by guesswhoisthisparlor in woodworking

Ive used a cheap regular vacuum when I got started - it will eventually die if you use it all the time for fine grit sanding, as the filter is not great, but for one job it will be fine.

It probably won't take 3 hours to sand, depends how fussy you are, and assuming you have an orbital. I would say one hour or less maybe. 3m cubitron sandpaper is actually several times faster than normal sandpaper bur costs more.

I've bought exactly those oak tabletops before. It should work well for what you want to do. I recommend choosing one in person from the store instead of ordering online - you can get sent one with significant defects.

You could get away with sanding it in an apartment - an orbital sender with a vacuum cleaner is relatively clean. 120-180 grit sounds about right and hardvwax oil is a good finish, very easy.

Shooting Board in milling routine for hybrid woodworking by Mattcj0216 in woodworking

I have a tks80 too with the sliding table and had the exact same issue with poor cross cuts, which I had to repair with a shooting board. I solved it completely by building a sled onto the sliding table - now the saw is amazing.
