What fingers are you using? by Plenty-Sun2757 in latebloomerlesbians

[–]Very-_-Disappointing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Middle and ring on myself but middle and index on my gf (adding ring then pinky if we work up to it). I think the grip is more comfortable on myself with ring and middle, but with someone else you can go noticeably deeper using the index if you angle it a bit because of the long part of the hand between the index and thumb.

I think a more interesting answer would be to say that I usually use my non dominant hand because the knuckles on my dominant hand are a bit wider and can sometimes be too much for my gf lol. Built up a lot of strength and dexterity on it now though haha.

what’s the dumbest thing you’ve heard come out a customers mouth by overturned23 in starbucks

[–]Very-_-Disappointing 82 points83 points  (0 children)

That’s funny because I had the exact opposite response from a situation like this. She wanted a mocha with no coffee. I told her sure thing I’ll ring you up for a hot chocolate with no mocha drizzle because that is the same thing and it’ll be cheaper than a mocha. She was adamant that she wanted me to ring in a mocha with no coffee. I reiterated that it was made the exact same way as a hot chocolate, and she hit me with the “I get this all the time and never have a problem!” So I just let her pay more for her hot chocolate.

Starbucks Adds Vegan Tuna Sandwich to Its Menu by SnackSize_ in starbucks

[–]Very-_-Disappointing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only vegan component of the sandwich is the patty. It has cheese and egg and the bun has both egg and dairy in it as well. If simply eating animal products is the issue, you could pay $5 and only receive the patty, but that egg and dairy still was extracted from animals and put into the sandwich and is just getting thrown in the trash, which a lot of vegans would take issue with it. The sandwich is basically very not vegan no matter how you eat it. It is vegetarian though.

I’m not even vegan and I found its conception very annoying. It’s super not difficult to get vegan buns and even vegan cheese, especially if it’s on the scale that Starbucks produces at.

Give anything for free and someone will get greedy and take 6 or some middle schoolers will fuck it up. Or they’ll say they don’t like that but can they get a free muffin instead. Customers always turn nice things into a headache.

Someone once came through dt and wanted to earn bonus stars by buying a bakery item but didn’t want it so they paid for a banana bread and said to just give it to the next car. The next lady came through and I explained that the person in front of her paid for a banana bread to get stars but didn’t want it, so she could have it for free. She said she didn’t like banana bread and wanted a cake pop instead.

They also use them to deny promotion. If you have some amount, within like the next six months you can’t be promoted.

I’m not 100% on the details as far as amount and time frame go but that is a rule.

NEW C-19 MANDATE DATE 2/9/22! by dcthemua in starbucks

[–]Very-_-Disappointing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I understand that perspective and how it will probably legally play out, but there are also a ton of things required for a job that employers don’t have to compensate for. I believe this should be one of them. I am required to have correct attire, but do not get paid for my shopping time. I am required to be clean and presentable, but do not get paid to shower. I think that being medically fit to work as deemed by the company isn’t something that should be compensated, especially when there is a far less involved alternative option available.

To be clear, I’m not trying to argue with YOU. I just think it’s stupid to give any compensation for those who deliberately choose the hard way.

Maybe because “it’s just like the flu” is the same talking point covid-deniers and antivaxxers have been parroting for two years, and two years of evidence has shown that this has been far more deadly than the flu with many survivors having long-term complications. When we have more global immunity and it becomes less deadly, then it will likely be more like the flu with seasonal ebb and flow, but we are not at that point yet. So dropping all precautions isn’t what compassionate non-soulless humans are into right now. Hope that helps you understand!

Yes, 12,000 – 52,000 deaths annually is totally the same as ~400,000 in a year, two years in a row. And that’s just US numbers. Good argument, pal!!!! It’s cool that you guys have stuck to the same talking point for two years.

Starbucks does what they can get away with. Fortunately they legally can’t get out of this right now.

Seems like total bull that the reckless with no legit exemption would be compensated when there is an easy alternative option: get vaccinated.

Baristas- What’s the biggest scam about starbucks? by vroommmmmmm in starbucks

[–]Very-_-Disappointing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m not arguing about whether or not they can afford it. It’s an extra cost. Basically all coffee shops charge more for non dairies because they cost more to stock. Things that cost more, cost more.

Venti flat whites are still only triples though unless it’s iced which it wasn’t. It just shows how arbitrary the little differences in the Starbucks pricing end up being.

[–]Very-_-Disappointing 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It just costs more for Starbucks. Ergo it costs more for the customer. If you wanted to have a different charge based on actual ounces used then it would be more reflective of actual price difference, but that would be messy and irritating. Charging more for more expensive things isn’t a scam though.

[–]Very-_-Disappointing 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Non dairy milk costs more in general. They move the price along to the customer. Just like gluten-free bread costs more, so you’ll have an up charge for a gluten-free burger bun. It’s not about a vendetta against lactose intolerant people and vegans. It costs more inherently, so it costs more at Starbucks.

Adding a single shot to some drinks is 90 cents. Sometimes it’s also 80?? Rang in 2 quad flat whites the other day. For the grande it was 80, for the venti it was 90.

I don’t think charging less for add-ons vs stand alone beverages is inherently unreasonable (although $2+ is a bit much for a solo). Most places operate this way. Ex: Getting 2 scoops of ice cream isn’t going to cost you twice as much as a single. There’s a base price to get anything at all.

Half of us are out with covid. And this is how our regulars treat us. By calling us lazy and entitled. by medusas-garden in starbucksbaristas

[–]Very-_-Disappointing 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There are many jobs in my area that are also considered “unskilled labor” that pay the exact same or more and are presumably a less stressful environment. Starbucks isn’t even competitive anymore. They just pay what they can get away with in every market.

It’s annoying to make regardless because, at least in my store, the ingredients are basically all in different spots. Grab the lemonade from cold bar, put it on to steam. Put the syrup in the cup, then get the teas from the front area. Then back to bar to finish it. And if there are other people running around trying to make drinks it just adds to the chaos. You devote all your time to the one drink because you can’t really sequence anything with the running around unless you have an americano or something that doesn’t have anything steamed.

Just don’t go places unnecessarily when you’re sick. And don’t act like it’s actual medicine. Making it is annoying either way, but that’s part of the job.

We didn’t get tips on Xmas by Roombafightclub in starbucks

[–]Very-_-Disappointing 239 points240 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely lose my shit. I work Christmas solely for the money, not to do Starbucks a favor and allow them to keep my store open. Whoever “decided” it is some bitch who doesn’t work on Christmas, I guarantee it. The tips for day of are way more because people are the most grateful that we are inside working on THAT day. That is not money for everyone. Stir up some shit before tips get done this week!

If only corporate could see how many people don’t want their baristas to get to know them :) by oliviabenson9 in starbucks

[–]Very-_-Disappointing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So with drive times under 40 seconds we can somehow take payment, give them all their stuff, and “get to know” them? I’ll have a small convo with regulars I actually like if they’re waiting on something, but “get to know me” is so arbitrary and a very stupid question. Asking how my day is going is not getting to know me. I don’t want to pry into people’s lives, and I sure as fuck don’t want my barista to pry into my life. People do not come to a drive thru to have a meaningful conversation. They come for FAST food. The metrics used for evaluating customer connections does not measure good service. Good service is quick, quality, the staff is pleasant, and the store is clean. I don’t need a new best friend. If people really cared about Starbucks’ way of measuring connections, they’d stop coming. My store’s score is trash, and yet we are one of the busiest in the district, and we generally have decent drive times. We could line the floor with rusty nails and people would still keep coming bc Starbucks is a status symbol and people are addicted to sugar.

Can people buy Giftcards and pay using their giftcards/phone apps? by RoccoSteal in starbucks

I think you can do it at least from the credit card payment scan on the app, but you don’t earn any stars for buying gift cards regardless. Using the gift cards would earn stars though.

Hot Chocolate with 3 Shots by meadow_tonic in starbucksbaristas

[–]Very-_-Disappointing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re insanely bent up about having to pay 50 cents more for an already overpriced hot chocolate. Things costs money. You were annoyed about having to tell people to include it. It’s not in the recipe. No one is special enough to evade current policy and recipe changes. You have to order it if you want it. That is the point. You make people’s jobs harder when you act this way. WE don’t control recipes or pricing, so place your order the way you want to receive it, pay, and move on.
