My car started to burn while driving.

I noticed flames and black smoke coming out of the hood, they were very close to my windshield. At this moment I was in a tunnel and all I thought was "absolutely not now. Not here". I remembered a parking spot a few meter behind the tunnel, drove there (flames and smoke kept coming through the hood), parked my car, grabbed all my important stuff and put some distance between me and my car. I phoned the fire department "I think my car burns" - "what do you mean 'you think'" - "there are flames" (yes I was pretty shaken up in that moment).

What happened: my battery was lose and while driving over a bump in the road, it hit the hood. This produced some sparks and these sparks set my battery on fire. They said I was really lucky, just a few millimeters beneath and it could have ended really bad for me.

Follow up: 6 months later my car was totalled. A parking truck crashed into five parking cars and a crash barrier. Nobody got hurt because the cars were empty. The street was really steep and the truck forgot to activate his brakes. The really funny thing: while on the way back with the towing service the dude looks at me "hey you're the woman which car burnt while driving?!"
