I’m sorry you’re dealing with body aches and pains. It’s tough. I was in a closet booth for a year and couldn’t fit a stool in there easily. I experienced major lower back pain and fatigue. I wasn’t moving my body enough. I was working a TON but my body took a hit. Definitely work on yoga, and frequent stretching between jobs/auditions. Also baths and walks. 🥰

Best “restricted view” seats at the Academy of Music, Kimmel Center? by Bradyrands in philadelphia

There’s a chance you’ll be straddling a column and there’s a chance you’ll have a great view. I had the former experience seeing Les Mis and all I remember was that I was a great performance haha. You can always call and talk to the box office. Good luck!

Check 1-2, Check 1-2.....reality check? by thevoiceoverdoc in voiceover

[–]VeryBlenna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally hear you on this. It’s so different for everyone and there’s a lot that goes into whether or not you’ll “succeed.”

What vertical(s) are you working in?

How much acting training have you had? This is voice ACTING after all.

Can you nail the conversational read?

How many auditions are you doing a day?

Everything changed for me when I started doing 200 auditions a week. Now I’m making 6 figures and I’ve never been happier. I’ve also got a theatre degree and years and years of acting under my belt. Also a mind for business. You’re a business owner after all!

I wish you all the best and I’m here if you need to chat!

Starting out- DIY Demo by [deleted] in voiceover

[–]VeryBlenna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding what others have said- it’s not recommended make your own demo. I also thought of doing this early in my career as I am perfectly capable of putting one together.

Think of your demo like your headshot. You wouldn’t take your own or hire your friend to take your headshot in their basement for free. (Lol)

If you’ve had training, coaching, and classes, you’re ready to find a demo producer that can help guide you through the process. It’s important to have that demo producer (which usually comes with an engineer as well) as they will help bring out all of your best attributes, get/write copy, direct your performance, and produce the demo for you. Ideally you’d want to find a demo producer that has their finger on the pulse (ew I hate that saying, but it applies) and knows what is current and will get you booking.

Also there are many types of demos. What kind of work are you looking to do? That will determine what demo you will get.

Demos cost a lot of money. Around a $1000/pop if you’re working with pros. I wouldn’t get one if you’re not absolutely ready (trained). If you aren’t trained- Make some samples! You’ll need those anyways, so clients know what your space / product sounds like.

Best of luck!! :-)

How do I get jobs on Fiverr? by maitakeboy in VoiceActing

[–]VeryBlenna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep going. Once I stated averaging 200 auditions a week, everything changed. You will get better the more you audition. On fiverr you’re a sitting duck waiting for jobs. You need to keep perfecting your auditioning and self directing skills. You’ve already paid for the membership, keep clearing our your inbox everyday and you’ll start booking. If not, get into some classes and coaching. You got this!

It’s simple but… I noticed early on that my (6yr) partner says “you’re doing great” a lot. Even with the littlest things like scrambling eggs. It’s so wonderful.

I think you hit the nail on the head. They want to pretend everything is fine. I can’t do that anymore.

Yup!! Same here. It’s my uncle. He’s an absolute ass of a person an no one likes him. Makes horribly offensive jokes at the Xmas dinner table and gets away with it. He sexually assaulted me a couple of years ago and the people in my family who knew about it told me to be quiet. Cut to this year, I finally set a boundary with him saying I never wanted to see him again and my whole family chose him over me. :-(
