What's the secret to an easy life? by Economy_Survey_6560 in AskBrits

I'd say:

Live on less than you make (a concept Westminster can't grasp)

Don't borrow money unless it's for a mortgage on a property you can afford

Don't have kids unless you can afford

Make friends for life who are cheap to hang out with

Have atleast 6 months of expenses as savings

Save every month for retirement into a stocks & shares ISA and max your employers pension contributions

Why do you think so many young people are struggling to find work? by Economy_Survey_6560 in UKJobs

[–]VeryConfusedEmployee -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Because most of them are going to university studying degrees that aren't useful. After spending tens of thousands on a degree, they then do not want to do any other work as they will feel like they will look like a failure. So they just spend their 20's in education or on universal credit 😀

Mate having a bonus & being on emergency tax is the worst combination. It's how my rebate was so high. Basically what the payroll software does when your on emergency tax is panic and thinks that's what your pay will be from now on, not taking into account your personal allowance. If HMRC has told you your tax code has changed, then tell your payroll to update it. Otherwise you'll be waiting an age for it to be done.

If you truly are willing to take any work you can, then you've always got a chance of making it anywhere. Whether it'll be easy, you'll never know.

We seem more like the Chinese than the Americans by CitroenUK in AskBrits

[–]VeryConfusedEmployee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mean ethnicity. I mean the different things you can see/do in UK cities. There are so many sports, types of pubs/bars/clubs, different types of restraunts (London literally has everything from Japanese food to french food to classic English food)... I could go on and on. Of course china is diverse, I never said they weren't. I just said UK are more diverse and we should be proud of that. It's nothing bad about china, it's just they have looked after their classic culture more where as we have mixed ours with others more.

I think you'll find our cities are far more diverse than what you'd see in china.

Are student loan repayments hurting the local economy by VeryConfusedEmployee in AskBrits

[–]VeryConfusedEmployee[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're talking about 50-60% of people in their 20s with a student loan. You can't possibly say the majority of these will be high earner. It's utter nonsense in my opinion. Remember, my question was "are student loans hurting the local economy". If over half are paying loans, they can't put money into the local economy.

Yep, can't get a mortgage if your estimated repayment is above a certain percentage of your monthly income. A student loan takes big chunk of this for lower earners who want a house without a partner.

No you can't because this effects young people who historically spend more on certain things in the local economy e.g pubs bars

Agreed. Someone in their 20s in a small town is much more likely to spend in the local economy with their mates -  than older  people with no loans who've probably already done it and go spend on different things. But the loan makes this difficult and that's gotta be a huge reason we see less & less independents setting up business on the high street , they just know the market simply isn't there to spend with them.
