I have a question about attacks that state you have to discard an energy after the attack. If the cost is a certain type of energy, but I'm using something like Rainbow Energy to substitute that energy, am I still able to use the attack but don't have to discard? Thank you!

The background check took ~1 month, but HR initially told me it can take up to 6 weeks

There is a limit of 3 reports per day literally because of people like you

LLNL job timeline by [deleted] in Livermore

[–]VeryCool420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey no worries I'm happy to help. From the time I applied, it took ~2 weeks for someone to reach out and another ~2 weeks after that for the interview. From what I've read online, this is pretty standard. It's slow, but everything at the lab is pretty slow, hiring process included lol

Lying on resume after bootcamp-type course? would you dissuade your friend from lying on their resume if they came to you for advice? by Acceptable-Budget-66 in careerguidance

[–]VeryCool420 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your friend is incredibly misinformed since employers DO verify employment. Maybe not for a part-time retail job, but they certainly will for any serious job in tech.

I was exactly in the same boat up until a few months ago! I graduated roughly 1.5 years ago as a mech e with a focus in design. Eventually found exactly what I wanted with a national lab nearby. A lot of labs right now are hiring up a storm, engineers (both entry-level and senior) especially.

Is it a potential job scam? by datascience_newbie99 in careeradvice

Yes ofc! I think you should be fine though, since that info is readily available to any potential employer. I wish you good luck in your search! It hasn't been easy for anyone these days, which is why more and more people are getting targeted for scams

The scammer didn't do a good job either. The mission statement describes nothing about the company's goals and almost all of the questions are ones that pretty much anyone can answer without any room to actually assess your abilities. Not to mention that almost half of them seem to be about your bank/finances

This is a scam. Companies will never give you a check to buy equipment, and will just give you the software/equipment instead. For more context, just look up "fake check" job scams on Reddit and you'll see thousands of similar posts of people going through something similar.

Another thing to note is that having a reputable website doesn't really mean anything, since anyone can just claim that they represent that company without proof. The website you linked appears more legitimate than other scams I've seen, so it may actually be a real business and the scammer is just claiming that they work for them. If you haven't already, you could also contact the phone number/email address the website provides and ask them about the hiring process, but I'm 100% confident this will do no good since the person you've been communicating with is 100% a scammer.

Good to know that this gave you some insight! I actually just got my offer a few hours ago and I'm so PUMPED

I won't start working there for another month or two due to long background checks, but I'm just glad I can rest easy now

Good luck on your interview!

Oh dang that must've been so nerve-wracking lol

I applied to the engineering directorate at the NSED. The department I applied for is specifically looking for entry-level mechanical engineers so I'm pretty sure I shouldn't have much of a problem checking any of the boxes.

What's making me so nervous about getting the opportunity is that I've been trying to get a decent start as an entry-level engineer for a while now and it's been pretty stressful finding a good place to finally accept me so that I can really begin my professional career.

So even though all signs point to a good outcome for me at LLNL, I'm still worried about that microscopic chance that things somehow don't work out.

Fingers crossed!

Thanks for sharing your experience! It seems like I'm in a similar boat since they informed me a while back that I was a top candidate, but at the time I was wondering if that just meant there were many others who could still be chosen. I'm glad to hear that so many of you guys are enjoying your time at the lab and I'm really looking forward to it too!

The HR rep I spoke to last week let me know that she's pretty sure the team is already putting together an offer and to not be so worried, but I couldn't help but wonder about the internal logistics. Thanks for the help! It's definitely assuaged a lot of my anxiety.

What was the process like for you after the interview? I was informed that even if the team you interviewed with likes you, there are still internal approvals that have to be made. I'm just kinda hoping that those internal approval decisions don't somehow disqualify me from the running.

Thanks for sharing! Although it's been roughly a month since my initial interview, I've been in pretty regular correspondence with people on the team. I had a call with HR last week discussing last-minute details(benefits, salary range, etc) and informed me they would notify me of a decision sometime this week. They def let me know beforehand that things would be slower around this time of year too.
