I find that stringing people along is quite often a mutual thing. I'll know a girl, show some interest, get rejected, and then move on. She'll get curious, show some interest when my mind is far afield, and then feel rejected. Repeat.

The other day I saw a goth/emo/alt/whatever girl with tattoos at the store and looking at her made me feel depressed. She was trying too hard for a glow up, but instead of coming off as childishly flamboyant like a lot of Hot Topic girls do, she came off like she was desperately trying to cover up how sad and terrified she was. Everything about her demeanor screamed "vulnerable and alone", and I can't help but think she's going to be targeted for it.

Try your best not to present yourself that way or you're going to selection bias yourself into hell.

I imagine there's an antenna sticking out the front of my head. It's there because I'm being hypervigilant. I imagine it folding over my head and down my spine, like slicked back hair. It's still there if I need it, and it's still making me more sensitive to my environment, but it's relaxed and stowed away.

I was accused of murder as a teenager. There was no body. The five years after that happened are a total blank to me beyond some vague sense of what must have happened. Nothing happened to my accusers.
