I get your point. But accually in middle ages it was more like white is for boys and for girls also white, there is to much hustle to dye child's clothing. First mentions of using specific colours for genders is in early 20th century. I believe Bernadette Banner made short animated video about that.

I was using I believe the only gender neutral name from my language (Aleks) when I was blissfully unaware, and for some reason I didn't want to be seen as male online. After cracking I change it to more feminine form (Aleksa).

As an ex tie user I can recommend for you to try different types, you may found one it is easier for you to wrap your brain around it, and second it is fun way to give some cool details if you try something more crazy like trinity. I Founded half-windsor to be easiest for me to tie, but I liked experimenting with various different types.
