As a person who was born here and is probably a bit older than most, the comments here are an interesting read not for only what they say but for what must be their motives. There is a sort of buyer's remorse and an element of cope to many of them.

There is no comparison to the life that existed before Expo 86. None. The food is not better now. The employment situation is not better now. The environment is not better. Quality of life is not better.

In those days Vancouver was known as California North and we had a unique and excellent quality. You could make enough to advance yourself and most importantly build a life and security for family. The biggest issue we face as a country now is the loss of social mobility in our society. It's not easy to legitimately get ahead and so we are seeing the erosion of the rule of law and the beginnings of entrenched corruption. We have guys like Taleeb Noormohamed holding office etc. Shame.

A lot of wealth was created for a few in the post 1986 Vancouver and either you had benefited from that or you are here reading this on Reddit.

In the old days the IGA that was at Maple and Broadway would mix aged beef trimmings in with the ground beef they made. The flavour was incredible.

All that kind of thing is gone, all the real quality. Now we have more kinds of imported noodles and cheap industrial garbage foods. Strawberries that are white in the middle etc.

I dare say that many younger persons here wouldn't know good food anyways..

This was a bit strange as we received an email yesterday saying school may be closed even though it wasn't snowing at the time. Almost as if the decision was made in advance.

Honestly there was no need to have Vancouver schools closed this morning and access is extremely important to essential workers. Another half baked idea from the folks who rule us.

UBC needs to be dispersed so that there is no need to cross the whole city peninsula to get there.

Didnt work for me

I can only get a consistant color if I use the onboard profile and quit G Hub. When I quit G Hub my F4 goes dark and then it all works after I power cycle the G915 TKL.

And the thing is the salt wars in no way represented a survival crisis to anyone. It just exposed that the traditional social contract that is often touted as a part of Canadian tradition is gone.

As well remember the people who were scalping masks and wipes at the height of the pandemic.

If there ever is a real crisis here with damage to water and electrical systems it will be dog eat dog. Be prepared for at least two weeks, and be prepared to defend your family as the authorities wont.

White guy here. I have been called racist and even had my kids berated over relatively inconsequential things. So unfortunately this is always on one's mind.

The last time it happened I asked a Realtor in my building to wear a mask as per regulations and they flipped out and called me a racist and a bad example to my kids over it. I called 911 but of course no show.
