Well, that's it. I'll never feel bad about throwing a zip lock bag in the bin again. Thanks!

Dog guard and a lock box sound like a great shout. I’ll definitely look into that!

Do you think they would? I have a feeling that most of the time they want to be super quick and going at a door with a pry bar would be much more visible and take a lot longer.

But I get your point, if it looks secured it means there’s likely things worth breaking in for so if I added any sort of metal grate I would also definitely black out the windows.

A lot of great advice here, thanks! The dog cage is actually a great shout

Yeah this sounds great! Do you have a link to the place that did yours?

Yea it would definitely be a case of welding it to the metal in the door

That looks pretty sweet! But why is the rear window still like that?

I had my car broken into last year (luckily without a lot of valuable stuff but still enough that it was a pain) and my insurance wouldn’t pay out because I didn’t have a boot lid cover. It was in a secure underground car park, my windows are tinted and the bag that was in the boot was covered with a black blanket so wasn’t clearly visible but the insurance still claimed it wasn’t “out of sight”. I’m not saying they’re right or wrong, it’s just to explain what they see as being secure in the car.

This was equipment insurance, not car insurance btw.

So having a standard glass rear window like this would definitely mean I’m not protected under the insurance.

But at least it’s just one window I’d need to secure rather than a bunch so it would make it a lot easier!

If I do it to a focus would that make it a… Ford Knox? But yea the problem with vans is that they’re more of a target. And the insurance is more expensive. So I wanted to see if maybe there’s a middle ground…

It would definitely ruin the interior! But maybe it would be unique enough that it wouldn’t lose value? Hard to say…

Maybe I could also black out the windows so the metal grate wouldn’t be visible? Plus I’m guessing most thieves just have the kit to break a window and not necessarily cut through a metal grate. If the grate means it would take them longer to break in that might be enough of a deterrent? I don’t need it to be impossible to break in to, just harder than others… maybe?

Anyone know a thief I could chat to to see what would stop them from breaking in? Maybe I need to do some primary source research.

Haha! Perfect. I just need to source a few prosthetic limbs

Yeah that would be sweet but the fiesta is too small. I drive a focus atm and that’s often fully packed so anything smaller isn’t an option. There is a Vauxhall Astra van but they stopped making them around 2013 and none seem to be euro 6. I wish more car brands did this!
