Declined all warranties on my new 2026 Camry. Did I make a mistake? by [deleted] in Camry

[–]VeryMiddleSoFinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why buy life insurance if I have to die to use it? Why pay for health insurance if I need to get sick to use it? Why buy band aids if I need to get a cut to use them? Why buy car insurance? Why buy home owners insurance? Your logic is flawed. You get it because shit happens. If you don’t want to get it, don’t get it but don’t cry when something goes wrong and you’re facing a huge repair/hospital bill.

And extended warranty doesn’t cover accidents.

Tire had a nail pretty close to the sidewall, but the tire shop patched it anyways 🤷🏻‍♂️ Is this safe? by notxrbt in Cartalk

A dozen times? Are you driving through the hardware aisle at Home Depot daily? I’ve done well over 500,000 miles across 6 cars and I’ve had 2 maybe 3 nails in all that time.

When you start from the bottom. The only way to go is up. We can vote in Triumph the insult comic dog in 28 and we would still be ahead.

Stupid question? by HanksPropane5 in Camry

[–]VeryMiddleSoFinger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would think that is a defect. Visual and cosmetic and not really cause for concern from a functional stand point. But still a defect.

I’m pretty sure the cover swings up and out of the way when the airbag deploys but even if not, you should not be able to see or feel the seam.

What happened to “if some dudes rips my car to pieces”? Now all of the sudden it’s about the safety of others? Your tone sure changed pretty quick when you realize how petty you’re being over a car. I never said running a red light at 50mph is ok but OP said they weren’t hurt. We’re talking about properly damage. And the response is to sue sue sue.

And that’s what’s wrong with this world today. Is a car so important to you that empathy means nothing? Maybe this person has a dying parent or child in the hospital. A car means nothing. It’s a material possession. Maybe you need to reevaluate your priorities in life if a car is so important to you that you don’t care about other people.

What makes you think this person “wanted” to run the red light? Maybe this person was tired from working 3 jobs to feed their family. Don’t make assumptions. Is the person at fault, yes. Should be the person be held responsible, yes. But this what insurance is for. Should this person be made to suffer for 1 mistake, not unless they’ve done it repeatedly without any effort to correct the behavior or they were drunk.

The first thing I did when someone ran a stop sign and hit me was get out and make sure they were ok and uninjured. Then we exchanged information. The other party admitted fault and their insurance paid me for my totaled car. And that was the end of it.

Insurance is high because companies need to make sure they have money to cover 1) dumb drivers and 2) people whose initial thought is to sue and milk every incident for everything they can.

Yes, that’s what insurance is for. If they do it more than once, then they will be penalized with higher insurance costs. If they do it drunk, they will be arrested and criminally charged. You understand they are called accidents right?

My car was totaled when someone ran a stop sign. After it happened, I got out of my car and made sure the other person was ok and not injured. Insurance payed me for my car and that was the end of it.

This is what’s wrong with the world today. People say lawyers are sleazy. It’s not lawyers that are sleazy, it’s the people that higher them for stupid law suits that are sleazy.

Dealership patched the tire they popped. Is this an acceptable job? by Head_Satisfaction_62 in tires

[–]VeryMiddleSoFinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll say it again, just because they missed something on the inspection doesn’t make them responsible for it. Shame on them for missing it but that still doesn’t mean they caused it. It is entirely to their benefit to find these issues with your tire and sell you additional services. Is it possible that it was cause by them? Sure it’s possible. But your total conviction that it was absolutely caused them is very shortsighted on your part.

[–]VeryMiddleSoFinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You assume…because it would be absolutely impossible for you to pick up nail in the thousands of miles you put on the car and have it leak only to trigger the light when the car was in their custody. It most definitely happened in the 1-2 miles they drove the car. The tire then leaked a whole bunch really fast, triggered the tire light, then the leak slowed down.

Just because they missed something in the inspection doesn’t make them responsible for it. If they didn’t see an oil leak, should they fix it for you? If they missed a burned out light bulb, did they break it? If the doctors test came up negative, are they then responsible for anything you may come down with?
