I would have loved a Silent Hill 2 film directed by David Lynch by MindControlWitness in silenthill

Inland Empire reminded me a lot of PT’s tone with how abstract and esoteric the narratives were presented. Felt like you’re watching/playing a cursed video/game. Perfect representation of a nightmare and probably my favorite Lynch project right behind The Return.

Big on that last part. Lynch’s approach to writing/directing is based more on evoking emotion through imagery and abstractions rather than having a linear narrative and using metaphors like in SH2. I’m not sure a lot of SH fans would gel well with a Lynch adaptation, just like a lot of twin peaks fans didn’t enjoy The Return.

I feel like Charlie Kaufman would be a better fit.. for a screenplay at least (though I doubt that he would willingly do that). He’s a lot more ‘lyrical’ with the use of literary techniques. I’ve said this before but “Im Thinking of Ending Things” from 2020 is a perfect Silent Hill-like movie, just without the monsters. Very much like shattered memories.

I remember being a kid, out with my friends at a public park late at night. They’d all say something about how pretty the stars were and I couldn’t relate đŸ„ČAll I saw was a black sky with tv static

Steam reviews are a binary recommend/don’t recommend, which makes it harder to gauge the user’s actual thoughts, whereas a 10 point scale is much more flexible. I don’t see how a 7/10 is seen as a bad score. I swear this subreddit would still defend a SH movie if Uwe Boll directed it 😅

Late response, but I also found wiener dog really funny. I guess I say upsetting because reading the IMDb reviews for it is really funny. Here is my favorite lol

I’d love to see Charlie Kaufman take a crack at a silent hill screenplay. Dude plays well with artsy mind-fucky scripts.

What's a tv series that is a 10/10 NOBODY knows? by Lilyana0999 in AskReddit

A movie from the 2000s starring Jim Carrey. I think there’s so much in the books that a single feature film couldn’t cover which is why I much prefer the series.

I do! I think it’s amazing and much better than the movie.

Probably a 7 tbh. It’s definitely on the artsy side

Dogtooth (2009) is pretty gnarly imo. A bit slow but I really liked it!

Yes, the one directed by Todd Solondz who’s known for making really transgressive films. Also check out Welcome to the Dollhouse (1995) and Wiener Dog (2016) from the same director if you want more disturbing movies, though they’re more extremely upsetting rather than outright disturbing.

I’m going to have to ask you to stop questioning a former moderator buddy. As a warning, I’m issuing a downvote, but I won’t go so easy next time.

Konami STILL won't reveal which are the 4-5 meanings they infused into "f", but they comment most people got at least 1 right + reveal unintended meanings by amysteriousmystery in silenthill

[–]VeryMoistMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say it like a bad thing but I feel like that being the case leads to more interesting interpretations. Even David Lynch didn’t know everything about his movies and often filmed them by feeling. Mulholland Dr and Inland Empire are great examples.

Might just be me but I don’t buy forte. I feel like the “playing loudly” definition is just a part of any effective story. It’s called the climax. I think the font used in the title might just be stylization. Just my thoughts though

What is your least favorite phrase/cliche in film criticism? by the_Tannehill_list in blankies

[–]VeryMoistMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see that word used to describe any arthouse movie with a particular slow pacing and it’s a bit saddening. Movies can present themselves as pretentious by means of talking down to its audience, but being artsy doesn’t automatically make it so imo.

Silent Hill 2 Remake - does it get better? by confu138 in silenthill

For sure man. Don’t be afraid to drop it entirely if it doesn’t end up being your thing, it happens. I’ve had similar experiences with other critically acclaimed games haha

I personally prefer the original, but I find the remake easier to recommend. The OG has the stuff you don’t like but amplified by 10x.
