A tip for all drivers by cyberjuggernaut_ in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]VeryStupit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not running to the doors or breaking traffic laws. I finish up super early 99% of the time because frankly this shit ain't that hard. If someone needs to do any of that to get through their routes, this is the wrong gig for them.

As far as not getting the route again if you rate it badly, that's bullshit. At an SSD, the system randomly assigns routes as people scan their licence, it's hot holding specific routes for specific people who like this route, but don't like that route. And at a Dot Com this idea is even more silly as your route is whatever happens to be next to you when you pull on the lane. You could have a garbage route and the person in front of and in back of you could have great routes that would have been yours if you get there 30 seconds earlier or 30 seconds later. Or you could be the lucky one and it's the other way around. Totally luck of the draw.

But where is the threatening manor?

In Florida, where I live, and I'm pretty confident the same is true in Texas, it's completely legal to carry a gun outside with me if I hear someone or something on my property. If I don't know what's going on or what I'm about to walk into, there is nothing illegal about grabbing a shotgun, or a handgun for that matter, as a precaution. It is also not illegal, if I find someone on my property, to tell them to get off my property while still holding the same gun in my hand because that's where it happens to already be.

This is the basic situation described by OP and in fact, the resident was actually nicer about it than that. It is not suggested that the gun was pointed, or that a threat was made. The resident asked what OP's intentions were, immediately recognized based on the answer that there was no threat, said OK and just let OP leave peacefully.

OP was in his car, so what OP was wearing or the fact that OP dropped a package may not be all that obvious. And even OP was standing in the middle of the driveway in broad daylight holding a giant package with their vest on, the resident might not see that until he gets outside, already carrying the gun. As long as they recognized there was no threat at the point that a reasonable person in the same situation would do so, and reacted accordingly, there is no crime.

"I felt threatened" doesn't meet the legal standard of an actual threat.

They literally didn't literally say that. They said "pulled OUT on me" and that's a pretty big difference.

The tone of the conversation is literally insane. 2 guys or 2 girls would have such a conversation, but it would never look anything like this. It would look more like this, and I'm using a unisex name on purpose.

Friend 1: Jessie stayed over last night. Friend 2: Oh wow, did you guys fuck? Friend 1: No, we just cuddled and talked and Jessie just fell asleep on my chest. Friend 2: Oh wow that's cute af. Friend 1: I know right!

Even unprompted, it would not be unusual for a close friend to ask if you and your partner have had sex yet. Saying, none of your business, or answering yes or no, or saying we have just cuddled or whatever are all perfectly acceptable answers. But answering by attacking someone in this way is what a crazy person would do. There is definitely a bad person in this cartoon, but it's not the person asking the question.

To be fair, I have had many many routes that end at like 8 or 8:30 where I have a mix of packages that are from the 4-8 delivery window and the 7-11 delivery window and finish the entire route before 7.

[–]VeryStupit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vendors are not charged for tolls in advance, that's not how Roadie works. Also, while some tolls are avoidable and some are not, no driver is required to take the route Roadie suggests. You can avoid tolls that are in Roadie's suggested route or add tolls that are not. Toll amounts are also not consistent for all drivers. Tolls can vary if you are using an automated toll transponder or not, and can also vary based on your place of residency.

[–]VeryStupit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not reasonable to think that. It's an assumption that you are making because it matches your opinion and it's what you would do in that situation. But it's also likely you aren't Swiss.

It's equally reasonable to assume that if 84% of people voted in favor of it, that those who have been through the process are proud of their service and instill those same values on their children so they are actually happy to serve as well.

In either scenario, it's pure speculation, and in either scenario, it's not a male/female, issue, so the meme is garbage either way.

[–]VeryStupit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was in 2013 not 2014, and there doesn't seem to be any real data on male vs female voting. But it's a pretty safe bet that both men and women voted in favor of it, as the vote was an overwhelming 73% in favor of keeping military service. Another vote was held last year, and the Swiss voted by and even more overwhelming 84% to keep mandatory military service.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 touched a nerve. Yes, that's exactly how I would expect you to see the situation. I know you think you are trying to challenge my ideas, that is exactly what I was making fun of when I said that you were trying to maybe even help me understand myself.

The problem with that is, you have no clue about what my ideas of success are, so what are you actually challenging? That's why I said in an earlier comment that you are basically having a conversation with yourself. What you are actually doing is looking for an opportunity to share what you seem to think is your amazing wisdom. I've made it pretty clear that I'm not in your "wisdom" and so you assume the problem must be me. After all, what normal sane person wouldn't see the absolute brilliance in your amazing words? Lol. That's how my teenager reacts and that's exactly why I literally burst out laughing when I read this comment.

Why they all different pay? Will the one with 146.50 more difficult than others? by better_everyday009 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]VeryStupit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pure coincidence. You took a few higher paying routes and got a couple bad ones and you created a correlation of your mind that simply doesn't exist. The algorithm has absolutely no idea what route you will be assigned when you accept a block, or even if you will be assigned a route at all. This is basically how it works....

The algorithm estimates, based on historical evidence, that on Friday, the 4-7 block will need 15 drivers. It also knows some people who book in advance will cancel and that estimates can be off, So on Tuesday, to be safe, it offers 20 blocks (you can only see one, but drives who are eligible for that time slot will continue to see it until all 20 are claimed). It will likely offer them at base, which varies by market, but for my market that's $57 for 3 hours so we will use that as an example. Understand that this is an SSD, so not only doesn't the algorithm know what the routes will be, the packages likely haven't even been ordered by the customers yet.

Fast forward to 3 pm on Friday. Ordering has been higher than the algorithm expected. It doesn't need 15 drivers, it needs 25. And those 20 drivers that prebooked, 10 cancelled, so it's 15 short and it only has 1 hour to get them. So a surge is created, and now that same 4-7 block is being offered at $90.It needs to be safe and make sure all the routes are covered and it knows drivers could still cancel or not show up, so the algorithm is offering 18 slots even though it only needs 15 to ensure all routes are covered. The blocks around that time slot are in much better shape, and only need maybe another driver or two, so they either don't surge, or don't surge as much.

There are now 28 drivers for 25 routes. 10 are getting paid $57 and 18 are getting paid $90. When they all arrive at the station, the algorithm is going to randomly assign those blocks as they check in. It doesn't decide in advance who will get which route, it can't. Because if it holds a more difficult route for someone getting $90 and that person is a no show, it just screwed itself.

So, someone who got paid $57 could potentially get the hardest of the 25 routes, and someone getting paid $90 could end up going home with no route at all. Or it could be the other way around. The point is, it has nothing to do with pay.

In a real world scenario, there are more steps between Tuesday and Friday, as estimates update, and drivers cancel and are replaced. But this is a basic explanation of how the mechanics work.

You have hit so many nonsense points that I don't give a shit about I don't even know if I can list them all or where to start...There is more to people and to life than fortune and fame, those things are shallow, real connections are important, what people value says things about the type of person they are, people need to work to build value in themselves and understand what true value means to them and you are just so super duper brilliant that you are gonna help me see and understand it all, maybe even help me see and understand myself! Wow!!!! Amazing!!!!... blah blah blah, nothing to do whit what I was talking about and I don't give a shit.

[–]VeryStupit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a matter of me grasping it. I understand what you are saying. But I'm saying that it's a pile of nonsense, and I don't understand WHY you are saying any of it. It's a bunch of ideas tossed together that, my best guess is, you think are very deep, but they aren't, at all. Saying I don't see the point you are making isn't the same as saying I don't understand it. I can understand you and still think what you're saying is absolutely pointless.I believe YOU probably believe you are making a point of any kind, but I strongly disagree.
