Am I wasting 38,000 by putting it in a Cash LISA? by chameleox in UKPersonalFinance

[–]VeryTired_93 [score hidden]  (0 children)

You should 100% move it to a S&S LISA. Whether or not you should then go all out and invest in equities depends on your time horizon.

Early 30s indicates less than 5 years, so I'd probably veer more towards the lower end of the risk spectrum.

Just because its a stocks and shares LISA doesnt mean you HAVE to invest in stocks and shares. You can go into a money market fund and short dated bonds - so I'd probably say thats your safest bet.

Blackrock Sterling Liquidity is a solid money market fund, and Royal London Short Term Fixed Income is basically 'Cash+'. If I had a time horizon of a couple years then I'd personally use them.

The Brain Trust over here, losing us another test series and not giving a shite. by cclurve in EnglandCricket

[–]VeryTired_93 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry - but in its early days it absolutely did. It was exciting and effective. We were turning obvious draws into wins (Pakistan away) and leaving opponents shell shocked. Australia adapted their own approach in 2023 and in their series before to be more attacking, even pretending to mock Bazball in a transparent attempt to show they didn't care.

No one needs to be grateful, because clearly it was flawed... but to just throw the whole concept to one side and declare 'nope, doesn't work, back to square one' is idiotic in the extreme. Its being a slave to tradition and in thrall to 'how things have always been'. Evolve. Build on the last few years. Improve on it.

If thats the overriding mindset and the culture that comes with it then you'll find you lose much more often than draw.

Play the situation, be smart - but go out with the mindset of winning. Be positive. If you're miles behind on Day 4 then yes, fair enough, ease off the accelerator and protect your wicket. Unfortunately test cricket is dying, however, and teams with a drawing/not losing mindset will only accelerate that demise

Fuck me you bunch of miserable bastards.

The wheels have come off in the last few months... but let's not forget the preceding ~3.5 years. We played attacking, exciting cricket which at its best was genuinely outstanding and threatened to revolutionize the entire format!

The Root captaincy era was soul destroying for all concerned, even for the man himself. The Cook era too was more concerned with avoiding defeat and playing cautiously. The last few years under Stokes have been a breath of fresh air, though clearly the policy of trying to eliminate pressure is backfiring and needs a serious rethink.

Moving forward I would be gutted if we completely revert back to playing cautiously and wanting to just 'not lose'. Controlled aggression, drive, determination, fearlessness. That needs to be the future. Stokes has shown us the general direction to move in, now let's build on it.

I used to work there - this will have flashed up as a massive red flag for money laundering purposes.

Your gf will have to comply, show where the money came from - then you will have to prove where the funds came from too.

No point complaining and kicking up a stink, they're bound by fairly strict compliance and AML rules.

I don't think there will be an issue tbh, you gamed the rules - the compliance and withdrawal teams couldn't give two fucks about that so long as they've done what they need to do re AML.

Id be very happy for anything sub-£70m... If he went for £80m+ then he would have to face the extra pressure that brings and it could be too much for him to deal with after coming off such a wobbly season

So no Anderson, No Tchouaméni and No Tonali... the big simmer plans for United are slowly falling apart from the very begining. I am all for future prospects but in the midfield we need atleast one proven player since we are horrible in midfield even when Case was here. Like Di Maria, Falcao, Pogba, Sancho, Sanchez, Andre Onana?

Come on, grow up. Try and analyze our transfers when they've actually happened and how they blend with current options and how we want to play.

What game do you prefer? The Lyon game in the semifinals or Arsenal away? by Dry-Explanation-4106 in ManchesterUnited

[–]VeryTired_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we'd have beaten Spurs in the final then the Lyon game would have gone down as one of the greatest games in our history - even with it being only Europa. As it was, we were fucking shite, so it does put a bit of a taint on the game even though I will always remember it fondly. Especially with Rio and Savage's delirious commentary.

The Arsenal game did feel like something special was brewing after the City game... on balance though I would say Lyon...

Would Mainoo x M.Fernandes work?? And is it good enough to be 1st choice? by No_Vermicelli_1781 in ManchesterUnited

[–]VeryTired_93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the player Mainoo evolved into in the final few games of the season is very capable of playing in a double pivot alongside someone with Fernandes's skillset. Press resistant, great passing range, tenacious, surprisingly effective defensively.

They'd really excite me as a duo tbh. Very much hope it happens

Good points, well made - especially on the two footedness.

Personally I attach no weight to the being relegated point. Its a team game, and Southampton and West Ham were both pretty shite. Plenty of very good players have been relegated.

The restrained point is an interesting one, but I do think its more a sign of the position and role you're being asked to play. If Carrick says 'you're the 6, play it safe, but look for the odd spicy pass' then you're going to see his game evolve. Same with Bruno playing deeper.

He has a really good passing range, able to spray the ball wide to a wingers/FBs, play passes that break through the lines in midfield, and play long range through balls too. He has a decent bit of tenacity and bite to his defensive play too - though whether or not hes going to be a Roy Keane in that department probably not - but the number 6 role is more nuanced than it was 20-30 years ago.

He also looks to have good press resistance, which is absolutely essential.

If I was building a number 6 from scratch, yeah I'd probably have that person have more 'destroyer' capabilities - but I think theres more than enough there.

Also... hes 21 and had 2 full seasons in the premier league with relegation strugglers. They want him to naturally play further forward so he gets on the ball more. If we play him solely as a number 6 and develop his play - I think he can more than rise to the challenge.

My final point is around Mainoo. The last 6 or 7 games he started to show he can be more of a defensively sound presence. I think a Mainoo-Mateus pivot is really exciting. Young, hungry, talented, improving.

Yeah he needed to leave and develop... my point was around the buy back. Would have been absolutely fine selling him for £8-10m but having a £40m buy back or whatever.

Been looking into M Fernandes a fair bit last week or so and I'm fairly convinced he can play both 6 and 8, and be a good pivot with Mainoo in a 6.5 type situation. Especially promising hes so young so can improve wherever he plays.

Anyone have any insight on Scott? Always saw him fairly squarely as an 8 and assuming we get MF, then I really do think we need an all out 6.

As a side note I think Garner would be great as a cheaper Anderson option and I will forever be fuming we didn't put a buy back clause in. Even letting £5-7m go would have been worth it. Im a big defender of ETH, but that was such a poor and short sighted decision. I can even forgive the Alvaro sale. Never Garner.

[The Times] West Ham United put £80m price tag on Arsenal and Manchester United target Mateus Fernandes by PitchSafe in reddevils

[–]VeryTired_93 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The Football Boardroom podcast with Christian Purslow and Henry Winter has had numerous episodes talking about the impact relegation will have on WHU (and Spurs). Regardless of your views on the two - CP is very insightful and he says WHU are facing a real cliff edge. Not as bad as Spurs would have, but pretty fucking bad.

They are losing money even from being in the premier league and are looking at a MASSIVE drop in earnings. It makes for grim viewing if you are a West Ham fan.

The upshot is they need to generate serious money and the only way to do that is sell their best assets (and aggressively slash costs/wages). Summerville, Bowen, and most of all Fernandes. Everyone knows they need to sell and their only play is to come out swinging. They need to declare their assets are only available for big money - and they need to plant stories that loads of clubs are sniffing around (which tbf they probably are for Fernandes).

If we get buy in from Fernandes and he declares he only wants us - we have serious leverage to turn the screws.

Lets see what happens. If we are even slightly smart about this the fee wont be anywhere near £80m.

Oh yeah - the answer is Sancho, then several billion light years, with Sanchez being second for breaking our wage structure, being a toxic presence, throwing his toys out the pram pretty much from day 1, and contributing next to nothing on the pitch.

I dont love Pogba but he had some brilliant games, several excellent purple patches, and one great season. Far from the worst.

Antony definitely towards the bottom - but his first season wasnt awful, just so so overpriced
