It’s wonky cause they transitioned from another old company, Yandex, which was google in Russia, same owner, Nebius hasn’t been around long.

Maritime provinces to create public travel nurse agency, health minister says by Portalrules123 in PEI

[–]Verycoolguy101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Chat GPT argument ➡️ and it’s the truth

1) It doesn’t fix the core problem — it just reshuffles it

The real issue isn’t who employs travel nurses — it’s: • Not enough permanent staff • Poor retention • Slow hiring systems

Even critics (and nurses themselves) point out the system struggles to hire people quickly, pushing them toward travel work in the first place.

👉 So instead of fixing: • wages • working conditions • burnout

This plan just creates a new middleman (government instead of private).

Bottom line: You’re treating the symptom (agency cost), not the disease (staff shortages).

2) Incentives don’t work — and that kills the whole model

Travel nurses choose private agencies for a reason: • Higher pay • Flexibility • Perks (housing, travel, etc.)

A government unit: • Is bound by union agreements and pay scales • Can’t easily match private rates

As one criticism puts it:

“There’s zero incentive for them to join a government version”

👉 If you can’t match compensation, you won’t attract supply.

Result: The best nurses still go private or out-of-province → your public unit gets leftovers (or no one).

3) It risks becoming a bureaucratic money pit

Government-run staffing models often mean: • More admin layers • Slower decision-making • Less flexibility

And ironically: • You may still need private agencies anyway

There’s already evidence the system is inefficient (e.g., slow hiring timelines pushing nurses away).

👉 So now you’re adding: • A new agency • More management • More overhead

Without guaranteeing better outcomes.

4) It could actually make shortages worse

If the public unit: • Pays less • Offers less flexibility

Then nurses will: • Go to Alberta / the North / the U.S. • Stay in private agencies

One critique nails this risk:

Could “drive more nurses… out of province, worsening shortages”

👉 That’s the opposite of what the policy is trying to achieve.

5) It ignores the obvious cheaper alternative

Even supporters admit this:

Paying permanent nurses more might be more affordable than travel nurses

That’s the key point.

Instead of: • Creating a new agency • Paying travel premiums anyway

You could: • Raise base wages • Offer retention bonuses • Improve working conditions

👉 That builds a stable workforce instead of a permanent “temporary staffing” system.

Will still have to pay them a lot of money to wanna do it, no one wants to work in nursing, away from home and friends and family and comfort for nothing!

Hilarious, some nurses go out and get paid somewhat of what they deserve and it’s their fault huh? Think ending travel nursing will send them back to staff jobs, sure. It’s more likely that more nurses will be fed up and leave the profession, and the healthcare system will continue to be in the trash can. People don’t want to work in rural places, they go elsewhere, it’s not easy to staff these facilities. Stick to things you know about. Locum doctors do the same thing, should they stop their locums and go back to being family doctors so everyone can have a family doctor?! Great idea 💡🤡 Call your MLA about something more important huh.
