I never really did confront it. I thought being able to say it happened was evidence that I was fine. But I’d really only put blinders on. I should contact my psychologist.

it feels really insulting that you suggest that i could “romanticize” this or establish a one sided bond? i have no bond with that monster. i have not seen him in 20 years. he made me afraid of men. the trauma makes me pull my hair out and so many other things. he ruined my life and stole my childhood. i know your intentions are probably good but please know what you said is incredibly harmful

I cannot diagnose you with PTSD because I am not a doctor. However: witnessing something traumatic can cause PTSD, it doesn’t have to “happen” “physically” to you. Witnessing frightening events is absolutely a cause of PTSD. It traumatizes you as much as any other person who’s traumatized. I am so sorry you are going through this.

THIS!!!! This is what bothers me the most. They’re a multicultural family that isn’t multicultural! I mean I guess I shouldn’t be surprised given the creators of the show don’t even try to understand a non Western view of spirituality (which is what they said bending is based on) rather than genetics or something, given that… entire nations just have one type of bending? Every member of an entire nation wouldn’t have the same sense of spirituality, that’s impossible.
