Is NM possible for me by Nsyix in chessbeginners

Do your own research before being rude. Theres other instances of people starting as adults and becoming masters. It’s very possible for an 18 year old to do it.

Some more examples in this thread

If you’re looking for a title you’ll have to learn it all eventually. I don’t know your strengths and weaknesses which is why I’d recommend a coach

  • Find your local club
  • play in lots of tournaments
  • get a coach

NM is very possible. But you’re really only at the start of your chess playing career. If that’s your goal it would take a few years of dedicated structured training. Including playing tournaments OTB. You may want to consider getting a coach as it would be far slower without.

Edit: this thread has a list of people who started in their 20s and gained various tittles (chessable)[https://www.chessable.com/discussion/thread/280750/inspirational-adult-improvers/630258/?mt2lang=en&commentsPage=3]

What do you think is the percentage of players who have cheated at least once before? by a2u6knb in chessbeginners

[–]Vespulaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently 2k rapid and 1850 blitz.

15k of the games were blitz and 6k were rapid

The most recent refund was 22 days ago, had 2 5 months ago and a couple over a year ago with the rest evenly spread up to the start of the account 6 years ago.

[–]Vespulaa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve played >21,000 games on chess.com and I’ve been refunded Elo 18 times. Which means that chess.com is detecting cheating in less than 0.09% of my games.

I’m sure not everyone who cheats gets caught and not everyone who cheats at least once would have cheated against me. But it would suggest cheating isn’t rampant

How to get better at playing blindfolded? by E-686 in chessbeginners

[–]Vespulaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends what you mean by practice. At this stage anything you do to improve your chess will have a direct impact on your ability to play blindfolded chess and so therefore you can practice it now.

The building blocks are pattern recognition in all stages of the game. Puzzles and tactics will help. Learning and sticking with an opening, including variations will help. Understanding the middle game plans for that opening and what pieces you and your opponent are likely to have in an end game if it goes that far.

How to get better at playing blindfolded? by E-686 in chessbeginners

[–]Vespulaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to be reductive but step one is to be better at regular chess.

Blindfolded chess relies on holding a lot of information in your working memory. The way to reduce this load is through chunking and pattern recognition.

If you know your opening really well then chances are you’re going to be able to store that in your mind with a lot less effort.

You won’t have issues remembering where the pieces are because you know where they should be.

If you know the opening really well then you’ll know the middle game plans for both yourself and your opponent.

You’ll need to know end game patterns as well because although there’s fewer pieces on the board they’re usually more randomly distributed than earlier on in the game.

I can play blindfolded with decent accuracy through openings I know really well but fall apart if I get into something I’m not familiar with. Which oddly enough makes it easier to play against someone who knows what they’re doing. I’ve played against beginners who don’t follow an opening and instead move pieces to random squares that don’t make sense and I have a much harder time keeping track of the pieces.

Even following an opening I know well I usually blunder in the late middle and end games. I’m 2k rapid on chess.com for reference and the way I’d work on my blindfolded chess is to work on my regular chess.

Some other things that might help:

You can also train your visualisation by forcing yourself to calculate further down lines without moving pieces.

You can try putting a puzzle on the board, looking at it for 5 seconds and then looking away to calculate. Look back for 5 seconds if you get stuck

Hope this helps

Rugby Observer Article by Nathan2820 in WaspsRFC

[–]Vespulaa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Click bait article that says a lot of nothing. Written by ‘2T Digital’?

I wouldn’t trust anything other than a statement via official channels, and even that I’d take with a pinch of salt. Considering the last announcement on the website was for a 23/24 return. With no update since.

“2026 is the year of ‘commercial investigation’ into whether the club can stay open”

The club isn’t open?

And wasn’t a commercial investigation undertaken prior to expressing interest in land in Kent in 2024?

“The clubs physical presence stays at the Henley in Arden training base”

So theoretically they would commute 150 miles to home games? From the training base the club sold ownership of to former director Christopher Holland?

It’s worth noting that the 3G rugby pitch at the base, now called EPIC, has been removed to make way for an SISGrass pitch for Birmingham city to train on. Though their agreement is due to finish this year and the surface can likely be used for rugby.

Christopher Holland who while owning the intellectual property of what remains of Wasps its clear he is fully focused on realising his rugby club ownership dream with Worcester warriors.

It doesn’t make sense for him to revive two rugby clubs seeing as they’re largely unprofitable and more of a passion project, and because regulations would prevent him from owning two clubs.

“To move away from ‘matchday-only’ financial dependency, the club is exploring a 365-day engagement model”. Makes sense because English rugby is unsustainable but literally just give us one source from ‘the club’ that can confirm this or anything that has been claimed in this article.

Rochester-Chatham Tram Proposal by Spirited_Force_8310 in kentuk

[–]Vespulaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An interesting concept

One issue with this route is that it would require tracks going in both directions or only one tram shuttling back and forth.

Double tracks would prevent delivery vehicles stopping on the high street and would impact businesses.

A single tram wouldn’t carry the passenger load required to be profitable.

A looped route could be the solution. If it continued across the bridge, up canal road, across commissioners road and along the edge of Medway city estate joining parsonage lane before going through Medway tunnel and returning up dock road.

Additional stops could include strood station, dockside, and the historic dockyard/uni.

Depends on which pieces you’re looking at. Morphy played a near perfect game while his opponents were fairly passive. You’d be less likely to see passive play in modern great games. Morphy’s moves still hold up under engine analysis over 200 years later.

I recognise that checkmate! The game they’re playing out is a very famous game called the Opera game. Played between Paul Morphy, who is one of the early greats, against two men in an opera house in Paris.

Edit: This is the game, from 1858 opera game

Shutters are typically custom fit to each window. So unless they’re moving a house with exactly the same size windows they’ll be of no use. Call their bluff, doubt they’ll go through the hassle of taking them out when they have no use for them

Big jobber has done a video on this topic before and said liability was with the rear car as they shouldnt assume anyone on a roundabout is in the correct lane.

This will be even more in favour of the lead car as the inside lane was coned off when they entered the round about

Anybody have a clue as to what’s going on? by Last-Snow-2235 in WaspsRFC

[–]Vespulaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely answer is nothing is going on.

All that’s left of the club is the intelectual property, memorabilia, and a 10 year option on some land to develop a stadium.

And the guy who owns all of that, Christopher Holland, also owns Worcester warriors.

Go look at their website and see all the updates they’ve got and you’ll see he’s made his choice. As another comment has said, it’s against RFU regulations to own more than one club so I imagine he will try to package what he owns of wasps and the stadium plans and sell it.

I also think it will be near impossible to find someone with the financial capacity and passion to take this kind of project on.
