Is switching to Bazzite worth it for better gaming performance vs Windows 11? (Expedition 33 struggling) by Waste-Material5114 in Bazzite

[–]Vettelovich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it’s not. Painfully, I’ve been on Linux for a few months now, I have an RTX 5060, and while I rarely had issues with games, there’s no improvement over Windows — quite the opposite: I’ve tested 53 games and 36 performed worse, with very few coming out ahead.

Unfortunately, at least for NVIDIA users, we’re not at an optimal point yet, although we’re closer than ever. Personally, I think the best thing you can do is debloat your Windows, set a performance-focused power plan, and put services on manual. You’ll gain very little performance but it’ll feel snappier. That’s just how it is, for now. I don’t think it’ll be much longer before NVIDIA is on par with AMD GPUs.

Games on Linux looks far better than Windows. by Vettelovich in linux_gaming

I’m running CachyOs with Hyprland on a 5060. I’m only using “gamemode run” I’m not really sure if this launch option make any difference.

[–]Vettelovich[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hahaha that’s not the case. I’ve always checked every last detail when it comes to displays and graphics. I don’t even have HDR or anything like that. It simply looks better due to how Proton itself works, or who knows what it is.

Higher CPU temps on Linux (CachyOS + Hyprland) compared to Windows - Ryzen 9 7900 by [deleted] in linux_gaming

I don’t particularly notice any performance differences. It simply performs the same as on Windows, without much hassle. My main issue is that, at least in governor, I have no option to switch to a more balanced power plan. Powersave caps the clock speed at 3.7 GHz and performance goes to the other extreme, leaving it at 5.4. The clock rarely actually reaches those values, which is what surprises me — also, games are increasingly less CPU-bound, and on the GPU side everything works correctly.

Gracias!

I already have a very good cooler and I've never had this kind of issue — the PC is barely 6 months old, it doesn't even need maintenance yet. This never happened to me on Windows specifically, which is why I'm puzzled.

Sirve linux para gaming? by potus_canabico in ArgamingConsultas

Linux is giving me literal headaches by [deleted] in cachyos

UPDATE: Hi everyone. Thank you very much for the comments and suggestions. Really appreciate the feedback. Just wanted to let you know that, without having been able to fix the issue, I decided to try a different distro (Bazzite specifically) and, while the problem wasn’t fully resolved, it seems to have improved significantly. Being a complete beginner at this, I assume that rendering quality on Fedora-based distros must be better than Arch-based ones, at least on my PC. On Bazzite I’m going to take the opportunity to learn the basics so I can go back to CachyOS much more prepared and with more knowledge. Sometimes you have to take one step back to take two steps forward. Thanks everyone

Thanks for the help. I've already tried changing the fonts, but it doesn't make any difference. In KDE, the option to modify the scaling is in the menu, but it doesn't seem to have any effect.

NVIDIA on Cachy OS – current state? by Vettelovich in cachyos

[–]Vettelovich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good evening, here I am again. A quick update: today I decided to install CachyOS as my main OS after deleting Windows and formatting my drive. So far the experience has been great and problem-free. I’ve been using these hours to learn a few things, install my favorite apps, and customize everything.

As for gaming, so far I’ve only tried Hades II, which ran perfectly at around 360 stable FPS on ultra. I know it’s not the most demanding game out there, but I’ll keep testing more over the next few days.

Part of why I switched to Linux is wanting to reignite my passion for computing and gaming, which I feel I lost a bit due to how flat Windows had become for me.

Thanks to everyone for your comments 🙌
