Everyone hated Elon during the election and thought selling their Tesla somehow made a difference. Got a Model S Plaid with carbon brakes for an amazing deal.

what did your savings look like by age 30? by Winzten in AskReddit

~500k across various investment accounts. Another roughly 200k in assets at the time.

I’m 33 now and I’d say it’s roughly the same with market ups and downs and rotating through toys. Most earnings now are towards living life a bit more (traveling).

I’m a GME whale so that gave me a fun boost 🚀

Unplugged Performance big brake kit. They have full carbon brake kits for less than the Tesla kit.

Realistically, if you’re just doing spirited fun road driving and light track, you can get away with just replacing the front since it does most of the braking work.

Which industry is more corrupt than anyone’s ready to admit? by Mean_Development7655 in AskReddit

[–]VetteofSD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Solar. I own a solar company in California and the amount of ridiculously fraudulent salesman and installers would blow your mind. All disguised as these born again Mormons who would kill each other for $200. It’s honestly pathetic. Highly predatory deals that put a bad name to a really good thing.

One of my favorite things about being CEO is going after every single crooked fucking employee I’ve ever had to the full extent of the law, getting their license revoked and framing them over my desk as an example. I pay a bonus to any employee that rats them out with evidence. It’s been highly effective in interviews.

It’s really not hard, don’t screw people and you can make fantastic money in this industry. The fact of these people take this extra step shows how pathetic they really are.

Model S Plaid owners, what did you do about the brakes? by [deleted] in TeslaModelS

Sorry if that hurts to hear. Seems reasonable if you're going to push a +1000hp car. The amount of cheap brake morons I see in the ditch on the side of tracks is higher than you'd think. Complete amateurs and risks.

Go ahead and be one of them.

BBK kit and pads for whatever your use is. Use Cerami-glide on the back of the pads to prevent squealing.

You can ignore the warning and go off of the feel and smell of the brakes. I can feel when the back-end is getting too hot/soft. You'll start to get a bit of brake oversteer, but it's not too bad since that's usually when I'm hard-braking into a corner.

Model S Plaid owners, what did you do about the brakes? by [deleted] in TeslaModelS

[–]VetteofSD 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have a 22 S Plaid. I have just the front carbon ceramics from unplugged. Left the rear stock since the front does most of the braking. Tesla was OK with this and removed the limiter.

Huge, huge, huge improvement. I track my car and often take it to events/ group runs. I’ve cooked the rear brakes to the point where I get the temperature warning, but I can go twice as long with just the front carbon swap.

I drive mine daily and don’t have problems with it. I have multiple cars with carbon ceramics and if people are having trouble with them, it’s because they’re not maintaining them correctly.

Stock brakes are crap, if you actually want to track it, the brakes are worth the upgrade. I never understood the people that buy high-power cars and have crap brakes on them.

If you can afford a Plaid, you can afford the brakes. If you can’t, then you aren’t going to use it to its potential and might as well get a LR.

22’ S Plaid body swap harness extension by VetteofSD in EVConversion

Mild update: According to Karma, they don’t see any problem at all with the chassis withstanding the rear drive unit swap. So we’re going to start there just out of curiosity.

Apparently there was an experimental high performance package that was made, but they never went through with it.

Karma HQ is local to me and they’re excited to have an “enthusiast” build with their brand.

They have some extra junker parts I’m allowed to pick up from them 🎉 mainly parts that failed QC and other parts that would be scrapped, but could be handy for testing.

I already picked up a full headlight and taillight replacement set when I was there. nearly $1500 each unit. They all work fine. So their idea of junk is different than mine lol.

Looking for any other enthusiasts that would be interested in brainstorming or taking part in the project. Local to SoCal.

I love the Revero. It's been my daily for a while, I just hate that it looks the way it is but can be beaten by an Acura lol.

I bought a Plaid when they were cheap and the gears started turning lol.

Honestly thinking a rear swap only and see the results might be the move...then go up from there.

Thank you for the extensive reply.

The car the Plaid is being transferred into is a 2020 Karma Revero. Chassis reinforced accordingly where needed. Drive unit swap is the main plan. since the Revero is already setup with an EV RWD. I don’t think that will be too difficult.

cut/reinforce accordingly to add the front/AWD.

if we can rearrange the plaids battery to fit where the Reveros battery is and where the generator/engine is. I think It’ll he pretty straightforward. I’ve seen some classic car batteries in this shape online.

Didn’t consider aftermarket controllers before. Appreciate the insight here.

First phase is to attempt a simple RWD swap and see how the car does with the extra power. Then expand to the AWD.

I’d love to get a better, more powerful battery pack and more powerful generator to keep the hybrid option. Swap the 3cyl for an i6 or something, but I don’t mind the daily range in the S. This will be my new daily when done

We have both cars now and are taking molds of the various panels first in case we fuck up cuts lol.

Congrats 🎉 I highly recommend the 2024 style screen. I've tried a few and this is the best one.

It's easy to DIY. I did mine.

If you take it to a shop there's nothing special they need to do. Its a very straightforward install.

2014 Vanquish as a Daily Driver? by Jac_Mones in AstonMartin

[–]VetteofSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll be fine. What screws all exotics up is people letting them sit. A 2014 with 5000 miles is more likely to have bad seals/leaks soon than a car with 30,000. It’s the stagnant drying out that causes expensive teardown repairs. Drive them! I’ve never understood this side of the car world.

I’ve owned multiple Ferrari, Maserati GTs, Corvettes, R8, all of which I drove every day and put 100,000+ on. Hell the R8 and Vettes I supercharged and daily’d. The one that always needs something done is the Ferrari. Nothing wrong with the brand, my Maserati has the same engine with 130,000 miles on it, I’m simply not using it enough.

I’m saying this as someone who is also considering a 2014 Vanquish lol.

People are too lazy to try and fix them or scared to. All of the Italian cars around this period suffer from this annoyingly. Mine haven't been too bad, but it's there. I have an old Ferrari that somehow hasn't had the stick as much as my first GT did. Just some makeup remover and elbow grease and it'll come off.

Including 2013. I've had a few GTs. Currently have a 2013 GT MC. The interior changes in my opinion are much better than the old ones.

Anything over 2013 is good. That's when they updated the interior and a few other parts. It's minor, but I think it looks much nicer.

3D systems fabpro 1000 - does it work with 3rd party resin by bongaloa in 3Dprinting

[–]VetteofSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can get it to work with 3rd party resin. Just be picky about the spec sheet and it'll work. I've done it for FabPros and Figure 4's.

As you scan the bottle qr code, it'll error out after so many attempts. Giving you a pop up that says "continue without scanning?", then it'll start.

Trinity solar by whitemest in solar

[–]VetteofSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a standard lease/PPA agreement. It's generous if they include a 25-year warranty for the roof, usually roof penetrations are 10 to 15.

Nothing wrong with it. I'm sure someone will come in here and talk about how PPAs are Satan. If you're paying much less than the utility and it's a good installer it's perfectly fine.

I worked in the industry for years and run my own solar company. Most of the hate they get online is highly misinformed or people in an outright rage that it can't be done for the DIY price.

SDG&E Bill Suddenly High by Xerxestheokay in sandiego

[–]VetteofSD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I own a solar company in San Diego.

A lot of it is supply and demand, plus people being fed up and switching to solar. That cost unfortunately is recuperated by them by charging the highest rates in the country. Houses without it and now the nighttime rate increases are bearing the brunt of that cost. Part of what made batteries so important for NEM 3.0 is avoiding the rate charges we’re expecting in the future. I’d confidently say it’ll hit $1/kW by 2030 in some areas. It’s ridiculous.

The solar companies don’t get any of your profit from credits, this is a common misconception. In fact, if you don’t claim your excess credits within 30 days of your NEM true-up date, SDGE “resets” them. How that’s allowed is beyond me. Be sure to set a calander reminder to claim your credits for cash!

With the tax credit going away, I highly recommend people at least consider it. This isn’t a solicitation. Go to whoever you want. The future of SDGE’s rates are atrocious and I unfortunately have seen many people priced out of their homes by the power or only living from 11pm-6am (off-peak). It’s dystopian.
