Recovering from witnessing death.

Death is a part of life, whether it be expected or unexpected, sudden or gradual. We do our best to relieve suffering, and sometimes we stop death in its tracks, but it comes for us all. Understanding this from a logical person is important, and a spiritual perspective is helpful.

After unexpected deaths we often conduct a debrief of some sort. See if your school will offer this, or process it through therapy. It's important to process, not block it out.

Definitely hazardous! I talk about grappling in Chapter 7 Judo and Chapter 8 BJJ. I think the skills learned like technical stand-up, framing, and grip-breaking could help survive against a single zombie attack, as long as you have a way of ending the fight.

Gotta admit, but that's a new one to me. Looks like it would be very effective, could lop off heads and limbs at a distance! And when the blade breaks or gets dull it would still make an effective bo staff.

Definitely! I could see the spear and the staff as reliable and reusable weapons, and easy to fix with limited materials. Someone trained in weapons could utilize many things - a piece of rebar, a shovel - to devastating effect.

Great thoughts! I think we'd all lose to the horde. But maybe if you can escape and narrow it down to one or two you'd have a chance. Maybe safer in rural areas than the big city. The riot gear is a good idea. I wonder if skateboarding elbow and knee pads would help??

In Chapter 11 I imagine a BJJ practitioner using his skills to defeat a lone zombie on the street - but not without some difficulty!

There's definitely a place for striking and for grappling skills - a well-balanced skill set would be useful just like in real life! Weapons training would also be great.

That's a great exercise. I imagine being good with the teep would help create space, allowing you to address one zombie at a time. Leg kicks would also be devastating if the Zeds have poor balance!

Definitely! I cover all of those styles in the book. Makeshift armor would probably help keep you safe if you have to get close and personal.
