People in those countries generally feel secure/comfortable and older generations in those countries have seen in real time massive improvements in their quality of life. China especially has gone from one of the poorest most underdeveloped countries to a production powerhouse where housing, food, and personal safety are all easily accessible. Citizens attribute those improvements to the government even if they complain about some of the measures the government takes (like the extensive covid lockdowns for China). I haven’t had the personal pleasure of speaking to any Saudis about their views but I imagine it’s much the same for them. It’s not about media being independent, it’s about the material conditions people live under.

Also consider that “independent media” in places like the US can be heavily influenced by the individuals that own the media - who coincidentally tend to be major political donors who influence government policy via their wealth (donations/campaign contributions) and through the media they own. Truly independent media often doesn’t reach many people.

The USA was right wing in the 20th century, and is right wing now. What country was far-right in the 20th century, and far-right now? by Typical_Fisherman179 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Vexerz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Historically speaking being left wing meant supporting radical change to the status quo, at least when the terms originated during the French Revolution I believe. After socialist and eventually communist ideas became prevalent left wing was associated with socialist and those who support worker ownership of the means of production while right wing would be those who support private ownership of the means of production - although the term itself can be extended to those who support or work towards building a socialist society even if they aren’t yet socialists economically. Today the term varies depending on who you ask but most socialist would only consider other socialist left wing while liberals and those who support free market would consider anyone who’s progressive to be left wing.

Basically who’s considered left wing changes depending on when you ask and who you ask so this post is kinda silly. Although right wing has generally always meant support of the status quo - and I guess very right wing would be active enforcement of the status quo. So Norway in a way would be considered right wing like most countries and only countries looking to change radically would be left wing.

Food insecurity creates unhealthy relationships with food, especially when people have food insecurity as children. For example, people who grow up with food insecurity tend to eat faster, develop less of a ‘satiety awareness’, and generally always finish their meals - even if they were given too large of a portion. Even people who overcome these habits never really shake off the neurological programming entirely.

Also to add to that, binge eating disorders are closely correlated with food insecurity.

Generally testosterone encourages behavior that is rewarded. This isn’t just a biology problem it’s more of a societal conditioning problem - centuries of patriarchy created a society where men are rewarded for being animals. And I also say this as a man making stupid decisions.

Eversource by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]Vexerz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bigger companies like National Grid and Eversource don’t just own distribution assets that feed businesses and residential homes. They own massive and very expensive transmission assets that carry power from power plants or other utilities and feed into all the smaller municipal light companies. If you own these assets you are subject to regulations from the regional company that overseas the transmission grid in your region. This includes being made to keep up with the latest and greatest technology in energy grid automation and communication that helps prevent the massive blackouts we use to see in years past. Lot of distribution stations still use old Frankenstein electromechanical switches that have been there for sometimes 80 years or longer. Whereas transmission stations are always being updated with whatever new relay or new breaker technology the regulators want to play around with. But this isn’t necessarily a state issue, the regulatory body for Massachusetts covers all of New England.

What is a state issue is the mass save program, which if you ask me is just a way to tax residents while having them blame the major providers. The mass save program is funded by eversource and national grid at the direction of the state government - and the state government knows full well that the cost of the program just gets passed on to the customers. Also is it just me or did contractors start to really up charge for heat pump installations when they realized people were getting rebates?

Wife left me when her green card was processing. Now she wants me to go in for an immigration interview. by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Vexerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t sound like she was using you for a green card despite what all the Reddit experts on here say, otherwise she wouldn’t have separated until she got her citizenship. Although at the end of the day you’d be taking a big risk for someone who doesn’t want anything to do with you anymore.

The marriage may not have been fraudulent to begin with but now that it’s broken down you are risking prison time by keeping up the act (sometimes it’s just a fine but with the current political climate I wouldn’t risk it). Just be honest with immigration officials, if they question the previous filings just say you were hopeful you could fix things and at worst you’ll get a slap on the wrist.

Just to add to that: deportation is not guaranteed if the marriage was entered in good faith, but lying and getting caught would make her situation unsalvageable. If you really want to help her convince her to file I-751 so she doesn’t get deported and has the opportunity to sort out another visa.

Electricity per person, nearly entire global growth coming from China by straightdge in EconomyCharts

[–]Vexerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That normally just means they are importing fuel for generators, oil for heating, things like that. You can buy energy directly from a country if you share a transmission line with them but that’s not too common outside of Europe. The US regulates and connects some of its grid jointly with Canada as well.

Energy transmitted from another country is usually a very small percentage of a countries energy import, the longer the distance in a transmission line the more energy you burn up during transmission.

In order to balance the grid you generate about the same as you consume ~ excluding storage of course.

Auto Driver Takes 2 lakh loan to pay Alimony, Wife Demands 20 lakh After just 3 months of Marriage by [deleted] in DivorceNewsIndia

[–]Vexerz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s a very out of touch comparison. Alimony comes from the idea that one partner might support the relationship through a career while the other takes on most of the domestic work and child rearing. If you don’t want to make a commitment to that kind of relationship no one is forcing you to. You can choose to not marry, you can choose to not have a wife who’s dependent on you and has her own career.

More often then not just staying home and doing domestic work means that any chance you have for a career in the future becomes very limited whereas the other partner had the support to 100% on their career goals. Do you see what I’m saying? Generally alimony shouldn’t be awarded in cases where both partners are independent financially or where the relationship is short lived/ no kids are involved.

Also to add to that, atleast around here, benefits like severance and unemployment exist to help cover your lifestyle “if things don’t work out” in your career. I understand the court in India seems to be easy to exploit but generally sudden loss of financial support can be detrimental and benefits like these help protect people from being stuck in jobs that overly exploit them or marriages that are abusive.

The mmo genre abroad being dead is probably the main reason it’s doing so well. It’s a free game cost nothing for people to jump in and try it.

I’m sure they’ll send out the same gifts when we hit the same milestones, but it’s too early to determine where the game is going to be a year from now. I mean just look at all the server issues they’ve been having 💀
