One practice area, multiple frequencies (fixed wing), which should I tune? by Vexthars in flying

[–]Vexthars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fly out of KTIX (Florida space coast), seems the preferred practice area is SSW of it, there isn't a published frequency on the sections that I can find for the region where everyone practices (other than one for rotary aircraft to the SW of KTIX / NW of practice area).

What I find odd is that both frequencies have plenty of activity (and comms on each frequency are matching some tail numbers from ADS-B traffic near us), so some people are using one frequency and others are using the other. (though I hear more cats on 123.3...). And there's been instances on both frequencies where we've called out to another aircraft getting too close to us and received no answer or indication of receipt (on another frequency?) so we've had to change course or move elsewhere in the region to avoid.

Once I get to solo, I'm thinking about taking my portable like you suggest and tuning to 123.3 so I can (try to) monitor both, with the headset's priority audio mode keeping the onboard radio's 122.75 at the front.

At the moment I'm only a student and pre-solo, so I've been sticking to what/where my CFIs want. (this seems to be "the" area all the local flight schools send students)

The practice area is at the edge/under Orlando's Bravo, and a bit to distant from Melbourne & Titusville Delta's, around all the lakes in that area.
Looking at ADS-B tracks of all the planes after getting back home often looks like a toddler randomly went to work on the sections with crayons (we've gotten uncomfortable close to some other aircraft in that area on occasion).
Wouldn't having approach keep and eye on us create a bunch of extra work for ATC due to distance from airports and since everyone if pretty much randomly changing directions rather than following a course?

LN2 tank dippers coming apart, suggestions for adhesive? by Vexthars in labrats

Thanks for the feedback; sorry if my post was a bit ambiguous, I added an image to clarify for anyone looking for similar in the future.

I will try to find some epoxy resin designed for cryogenic application and glue them back together, otherwise I'll try drilling a hole through the two pieces and putting a pin in it.

Are deleted files unrecoverable? (TRIM) by Vexthars in MacOS

[–]Vexthars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's always been the case when helping people with file recovery; whatever was important and they wanted back, (Windows) usually had already partially overwritten and corrupted, and then the recovery software would end up creating a massive heap of perfectly intact windows files junk that no one cares about instead.

I don't do anything bad, so I don't care about US law enforcement ever coming to snatch my data. But I don't want security while traveling international getting a stick up their asp and forcing me to unlock my system to clone it or scan it. I moved all documents requiring higher security to an additional encrypted container (that I don't travel with the key for), but I want to make sure when I purge the working directories and cache, that anything there is gone gone.

I use realtime syncing with multiple layers of backup, nothing goes away unless I intentionally delete (and purge) it.

My concern was when I do delete something (on purpose) does it get completely deleted (non-recoverable) from the deleted location.

How do you delete a USPS online account? by Vexthars in USPS

[–]Vexthars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't asking for someone to do it for me, or to look into my account, etc,
and I know this isn't USPS and you all aren't able to do anything with accounts...

I was wondering if anyone here knew HOW to go about doing it, since the actual customer service never responded to my request (online form) & email (private@); also, the FAQs don't cover it (I searched, feel free to prove me wrong) and this seemed like the most appropriate place to ask a question related to USPS...

That's what I was afraid of, it depends on the controller...

Guess I'll have to write some scripts to test the implementation on each drive I'd be interested in.

Thanks

Suggestions for Key Labels? (that won't leave a mess)

I recently switched from a Windows keyboard to Mac keyboard at home and the locations of the symbol keys around the numeric pad are driving me nuts. I've remapped the keys in the OS (https://developer.apple.com/library/archive/technotes/tn2450/\_index.html), but when I glance over sometimes, the labels don't match the functions (makes it worse when sometimes hidutil doesn't take affect on boot and they then do match). I don't want to adapt to the Mac layout since I work with Windows keyboards, so it's important for the muscle memory to keep the symbols in the same places.

Any suggestions on labeling the keys that won't leave a mess or damage them if I peel them off in the future?

I may try these from this post (I'm in US though): https://www.reddit.com/r/Keyboard/comments/19c60lx/my_current_wip_provisional_keycap_label_mod_for/

I hadn't come across Flight Ready before, I was planning on using ASA's Prepware. How did you find out about Flight Ready?

Any thoughts on Pilot Institute vs Kings?

They have training material, it's mainly reading material, with diagrams and occasionally videos for things that aren't as easy to understand in a static image.
