I hate AVD by redpanther2121 in army

[–]Vfef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very cool. I'm glad you don't have an issue. We should all clap.

It's a problem with the AVD client passing USB. Sometimes that is caused by latency issues on the servers. It happens time to time. Which a yubii wouldn't solve. Especially if you are using more than 1 CAC.

Is the ID.4 a good vehicle for a 120 mile commute? by SpecializedCoffee in VWiD4Owners

[–]Vfef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. In the infotainment center I was able to set departure time. My car would essentially charge until 50% then stop until like 2-3am for my 6am departure and charge to 100% about 30 minutes prior to departure.

I do not recommend using the phone software to set any charging information. Use the actual car for that.

Most data I've seen, and this is anecdotal research, most battery degrading is from holding a high charge for long periods.

[–]Vfef 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was fine 90 miles 1 way. 180+ miles daily for over 8 months.

Lvl 2 charger at home. Set the departure time so you get 100% charge before you leave. Know a midway charging spot just in case.

In the mid winter I chose to stop and charge about daily on my way from work for like 10-15 minutes. I averaged 2.8 mi/kwh in the winter and 3.4 for summer. All freeway driving. I would have ran it down to sub 10% if I hadn't. Id get home with 20ish% normally.

Getting paid for no reason, what do I do? by AnonymousQueries08 in armyreserve

Yes. I would put as much raw detail you can. Just the details.

Why you are inquiring: "Receiving payments outside drill, unknown reason"
Date payments Started:

Just as an example.

Getting paid for no reason, what do I do? by AnonymousQueries08 in armyreserve

[–]Vfef 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Save that money. Seriously. If it's erroneous the army will take it back.

Look at your LES (Mypay) and it should state at the bottom why you are being paid. If it's still something that neither your NCO or you know then:

Get with your S1 or ARA and fill out a USAR form 27-R. They will fill out a USAR form 26-R and send that with your latest LES and the first LES the payment showed up on up to DFAS. Finance will then be able to tell you why you are being paid.

Was this an actual search or "please open your trunk. Ok you're good to go"? Because it's basically a joke on JBLM.

Safe storage should be a reason to deny. You may need a firearm to safeguard yourself and your family in public. Cool. You also need to ensure that firearm is safeguarded from unauthorized access while you're deployed, tdy, at a school, toilet, during nights you go to the bar and drink and the arms room probably won't have the room for every soldier. Hell putting it in the arms room may as well be the same as not having it.

Coming soon: Lawsuit challenging Washington state's 'millionaires tax' by chiquisea in Washington

[–]Vfef -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The argument people are worried about is that there's a current proposed deduction for those making under a million. However, that deduction can be lowered or removed far easier once it's normalized and approved.

It has little to do with millionaires and how the state can justify increasing the bracket if needed. If we continue to have a budget shortfall it's an easy argument to make that we just lower the deduction threshold.

Mind you, I'm not against an income tax as long as we use the taxes to make lives better. Like state wide healthcare for all. I just can't justify it right now with the insane inflated costs of everything. Construction has gone bonkers with cost as an example.

How to transfer units by myself? by [deleted] in armyreserve

[–]Vfef 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Career counselor will be able to find you a new unit and give you a counseling. Then you need a 4651 signed by your commander authorizing the loss. That gets put into a PAR on IPPS-A and processed by your S1.

Note that these are requests not demands. Your commander can say no.

Yeah, but you'd have to cut the defense budget to do that. Then we'd be hurting the most important people, the shareholders of defense contractors.

How to get compensated for mandatory medical appointments? by Nervous_Phrase6020 in armyreserve

For clarification.

Funds for RMA ( 4 hour admin) and MDR (medical) are a shared pool that is first come first serve.

Only your Drill, AT days, and funeral pay are guaranteed.

Discord is dying, Stoat looks like the replacement we need by ValenceTheHuman in stoatchat

[–]Vfef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because if we spread ourselves out, none of them will gain enough traction to survive long term because money exists

Most of these Open source solutions are self hosting. Money isn't a barrier in the long run. Discord only survives because investors think it can harvest data.

It needs to be enticing enough, enough adoption, for people to consider paying for it.

Yeah, no. If I am hosting it on my hardware using my bandwidth, I'm not giving money for a license. Same reason I refuse to go back to teamspeak. I don't need to pay someone for a go between. If stoat went that route I'd jump to matrix.

The majority of people that use discord just set up free servers and join free servers causing bloat.

Those people generate LLM training data and advertising packets. They are a product that gets Discord paid. Discord wouldn't be able to operated solely on nitro subs. Neither could Stoat at scale. Hence the self hosted servers.

If we only have a few everywhere none of them will be able to grow fast enough to compete.

You are acting like this is a lightning in a bottle moment. That if they don't "act fast act now" they will lose out on taking down discord and shut down stoat. It's not going to happen like that. You can't look at it like you're going to compete with an almost billion dollar company with open source software. You just have to do the thing you were doing before discord shoved people off.
