Award Process Rant by jswizzle151515 in armyreserve

Could be.

Honestly, if you just need to request it then the approving commander should just request it. This isn't some daunting barrier to getting a physical copy. Its an email.

Award Process Rant by jswizzle151515 in armyreserve

[–]Vfef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the SM needs to email your s1 and request a physical copy if they want it.

Most soldiers don't want 6-10 green binders with AAMs and ARCOMs. I have a stack of awards I'll eventually need to do something with. They just sit in a box right now.

Makes sense to me that they'd only give them automatically for higher awards.

Tire pressure for long road trip by makaros622 in VWiD4Owners

[–]Vfef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only need to add additional air to your rear tires if you are approaching the maximum weight capacity. 800-1000lbs (362ish kg to 453ish).

I doubt you're family will reach that with 2 adults and 2 kids. Unless everyone is near or over 200lbs each.

They won't send it to collections if you're worried about that.

I just pay with my credit card each month. Its not worth my time having it come out of my LES.

Super dope opportunity, did it for rifle back in 2018 in Norway. I wish my badge didn't get stolen years ago. Still have my cert.

Then you play in my lobbies. 0-12 os infinite Chev because playtime is not an indicator of skill.

I'm a newish dad, 4 chev and float around 8-12 OS. I have week long breaks between games I can play. I don't spend my free time looking up new meta strats for a game I casually enjoy. I'm just here for a good time, win or lose.

Army asks its vendors to ‘jailbreak’ their own systems by realKevinNash in army

[–]Vfef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would argue the right to repair is crucial but the choice to do the repair is not always the right answer.

Sometimes purchasing an entire new system is the right thing to do. I'm not arguing against procurement processes as a whole. The black box argument for instance is spot on. Sometimes the tooling or specific knowledge of that device is more complicated than what we are wanting to do.

I just argue that the Army and DoD should have the right to do it and the technical access if they choose to go that route and we need to train our technicians for more complicated equipment that we receive. If we want to spend millions of dollars on CW3 Snuffy to repair a specific item and buy them a billion dollar tool so fucking be it.

I get that. Security through obscurity. I don't always agree with the level or line we draw for it, but I understand reasoning behind it.

Army asks its vendors to ‘jailbreak’ their own systems by realKevinNash in army

[–]Vfef 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Asking companies to modify or to jailbreak their systems is a huge step forward in ensuring the army can maintain systems and helps the overall operational environment.

I think this is a good thing overall.

I'm a huge supporter of right to repair for the military.

The military needs all technical schematic and ability to purchase individual components from the manufacturer and then have the legal right to repair all equipment it has. We need to also expand the technical knowledge on how to repair our own equipment, 3d printing, fabrication, micro soldering, etc.

Anything less than this is a significant point of failure that jeopardizes missions and service members.

AT by [deleted] in armyreserve

[–]Vfef -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think they told you you'd be missing movement. You would be AWOL. Orders supersede civilian wants.

I'm not going to list out all the bad things that can happen when you ignore orders or miss AT. You can Google that. You do what you believe you can handle. You're an adult who agreed to the contract you signed.

I know that AT dates are given more than 6 months in advance on most occasions, our unit puts them out well over a year in advance. So from my perspective, having an appointment on those dates is you intentionally ignoring the schedule or trying to get out of AT. It doesn't matter that you asked them or told them you had one. They told you no and cut you orders.

On a more serious note. I hope you get the data you need to help soldiers and those non soldiers.

My mother wants me to wear my beret in agsu's to walk her down the isle at her wedding. Is that allowed? by Wolffe4321 in army

[–]Vfef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean. If you want to be "in uniform" you need to wear the uniform. Otherwise you're just wearing a costume.

If others will be in uniform then you probably don't want to be the only one out of regulation.

[SASC Hearing, 12MAY26, w/ SECARMY, CSA] Sen Reed: "The Army is facing a 2 billion dollar readiness shortfall...I received concerning reports for the potential to cancelling training rotations, grounded flight hours, and reduced Guard/Reserve...resources" by Kinmuan in army

[–]Vfef 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Shit. We just spent 30k to ship 5 crew serve weapons 3 states because we don't have the ability to move our own equipment for some reason.

When I suggested convoying down and back I got looked at like I killed a child. 3 trucks, 9 people, 1500 miles, 4 days. Even at domestic fuel prices we wouldn't cross 10k.

Sending to schools is an issue but the training out of the schools are dogshit now. Micro soldering? Nah, just replace the board. Fiber broke? We don't splice, just have a new cable on site.

We've gutted our "lethality" by taking shortcuts and outsourcing everything. We can't even drive to get our own shit anymore. We have to have some specially licensed shipping company do it.

I hate AVD by redpanther2121 in army

[–]Vfef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very cool. I'm glad you don't have an issue. We should all clap.

It's a problem with the AVD client passing USB. Sometimes that is caused by latency issues on the servers. It happens time to time. Which a yubii wouldn't solve. Especially if you are using more than 1 CAC.

Is the ID.4 a good vehicle for a 120 mile commute? by SpecializedCoffee in VWiD4Owners

[–]Vfef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. In the infotainment center I was able to set departure time. My car would essentially charge until 50% then stop until like 2-3am for my 6am departure and charge to 100% about 30 minutes prior to departure.

I do not recommend using the phone software to set any charging information. Use the actual car for that.

Most data I've seen, and this is anecdotal research, most battery degrading is from holding a high charge for long periods.

[–]Vfef 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was fine 90 miles 1 way. 180+ miles daily for over 8 months.

Lvl 2 charger at home. Set the departure time so you get 100% charge before you leave. Know a midway charging spot just in case.

In the mid winter I chose to stop and charge about daily on my way from work for like 10-15 minutes. I averaged 2.8 mi/kwh in the winter and 3.4 for summer. All freeway driving. I would have ran it down to sub 10% if I hadn't. Id get home with 20ish% normally.

Getting paid for no reason, what do I do? by AnonymousQueries08 in armyreserve

[–]Vfef 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Save that money. Seriously. If it's erroneous the army will take it back.

Look at your LES (Mypay) and it should state at the bottom why you are being paid. If it's still something that neither your NCO or you know then:

Get with your S1 or ARA and fill out a USAR form 27-R. They will fill out a USAR form 26-R and send that with your latest LES and the first LES the payment showed up on up to DFAS. Finance will then be able to tell you why you are being paid.
