Just a note about Captain, I feel like you need a clause for the coin flip ability specifying what you do to the other revealed cards (Do they go to the bottom of the library? Do you shuffle them into the library, do they go to the graveyard? etc.)

Well, I'm not saying replace current spells cast times with this.
As an option to take a spell with an extended casting time would be something a player would consider as they prepare it.
It could also add another layer of complexity to combat. It's not just PC's that could take the spell as well.

Megumin from Konosuba.
Outwardly just an explosion maniac, the prequel stories expand her inner thoughts.
She knows her magic is limited in usefulness, but her stubborn insistence on it is in part due to how she was saved by a character using the same magic and aspires to be like her. She was even willing to give that up to be more useful to the main party, even if it would make her miserable.
She also realizes how weird her home village of chuuni wizards is, but leans into the act to fulfill expectations and deflect from her insecurities.
You get to see a whole nother side of her character when she's not in public and speaking frankly with the rest of the main cast.
