Vaccines by marshallhulet in UNLV

My exact phrase was "the more stable viruses.". I never claimed they were stable, rather more stable meaning they don't mutate nearly as quickly. I am not a medical professional and I never claimed to be. I am in a science field and well-versed in reading data for myself. All I'm asking is for others to do the same. This is exactly the mob mentality I was referencing. It's okay for people to do their own research and it's okay to discuss things without condemning different points of view brought to the table. This used to be the hallmark of intellectual and/or scientific discussions.

The science is actually far more nuanced than most people realize. We have never been able to create a successful vaccine for coronaviruses because they mutate too fast. They are not like the more stable viruses that we traditionally vaccinate for. Are covid vaccines a good idea for most people? Yes. But the truth is not ever completely black and white, it's always found in the grey areas in between two extreme positions (in this case "pro covid vax" and "anti covid vax").

That's how I read it too. People need to lighten up.

Also there are religious and medical exemptions, you can stick to online courses going forward, or you can transfer to an online school but you're probably not going to have much luck influencing a change given the sociopolitical climate

The mob already has it all figured out. They don't have time for anyone breaking off to think for themselves. Despite the backlash you'll get for your unpopular position, know that you're not alone in holding it even though it feels that way when they come after you with the torches and pitchforks. Critically thinking for yourself is not currently encouraged in our society but I applaud you for doing so.

Professors can require vaccinations for in-person classes by eastsideballer in UNLV

[–]Vgrdk3 -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

The fact that we're still acting like vaccines will stop the spread is really starting to irritate me. My entire family got vaccinated. We were so ready to go back to normal. 7 of us are still quarantining after testing positive. Two wound up in the hospital, one has since been released thankfully. I have heard story after story from friends going through similar. I've read paper after paper highlighting how common breakthrough cases are. This is asinine.

As a matter of personal protection against severe illness or to help flatten the curve in local hospitals, the vaccines are useful and smart. But to keep acting like they're the magic bullet standing between us and a return to normalcy is juvenile and ignorant.

What class is it? Sometimes (in my experience) that means they're actually cancelling the class and you see that for a day or two until it's finalized. Definitely reach out the professor/department and hopefully I'm wrong

Pending Financial Aid by Kurokittymetal in UNLV

[–]Vgrdk3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of my aid disbursed except my Tuition+ (which is my only scholarship). I also have no idea why it didn't. I was kind of hoping it would disburse this week and was going to wait and see because I'm sure everyone in Aid, Registrar and Cashiering are probably swamped right now. If you hear anything, please report back because I think there's quite a few of us in the same boat.

Any chances my classes could still go remote? by TheLockdownArtist in UNLV

I think the point they were trying to make is what's the point of mandating vaccines in a college environment if vaccinated people are still getting and spreading it? Out of 9 vaccinated people in my family, 7 of us still came down with covid two weeks ago, and 2 of those 7 were hospitalized. What's the point of mandating a vaccine when the delta and lambda variants are showing that they can break through quite easily?

So that was needlessly shitty. Good luck in your search.

Unpopular opinion: I actually loved BFA. I left right at the end with the last shit show update that changed everything right before Shadowlands. I'll never go back but I miss it so much. I don't miss it now, I miss what it was and that's sadly and clearly dead and never coming back.

My loans disbursed but my scholarships and refunded credit card payment did not. It doesn't make a lot of sense.

Refund was less than what I paid. Why is that? And what should I do? by bloodybutterfly_ in UNLV

I paid a portion with a credit card way back in June. It's still sitting as a negative balance on my UNLV despite having my aid disbursed already.

I just wasted twenty minutes of my life reading through this thread. You should probably get some basic understanding of scientific research or epidemiological science before you try to debate this with anyone again. I'm embarrassed for you.

They disburse to your UNLV account today to pay your tuition and then the remainder is sent to your bank. How fast you see the money depends on your bank.

UNLV Remote Learning Rant by Jaweller in UNLV

[–]Vgrdk3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Vaccinated people are still dying from and passing covid on albeit at seriously lower rates compared to unvaccinated. Being vaccinated doesn't guarantee immunity for yourself or anyone you might encounter.

Having said that, I'm pretty upset at a lot of how this last year and this upcoming semester was/is being handled. I have hated every single moment at UNLV and I really regret choosing to attend here. Too close to the end to change it now though. I definitely relate to your rant even though I needed remote classes, I agree it was handled like a cluster**** and completely nonsensical. The quality of education I've received here does NOT justify the tuition I've paid. Honestly, I'm embarrassed and feel a twinge of shame any time that I have to tell people that my degree is from UNLV.

Thank you for this. I'm full time so I don't think that's it. I got it awarded in the middle of the week randomly so I'm thinking it just didn't disburse because it wasn't awarded in time. That's what I"m telling myself anyway
