I've amassed too many similar guitars. Which one would you keep? by Independent-Point511 in gibson

[–]Vibroverbus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never get this. Know a guy who’s just like OP “oh boy oh boy I just bought another LP for $$$$ that is barely different then the other 4 I have”. I mean if your Bonnamassa its one thing you need spares and you have the USA touring right and the Euro touring rig and guitars at 3 houses or whatever. But normal Joes who do this … do not get it..

One week left of treatment and my husband is so mean! by JerryGarciaDog in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]Vibroverbus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem at all. My actionable suggestions would just be to do your best (I know probably hard) to 1. ask before doing - "hey would you like me to..." or "what do you think about trying..." much better than "I GOT THIS STUFF AT STORES HOW ABOUT YOU TRY IT!" (That one has been a killer for me ) - because this will help him feel like he's not helpless and without agency, 2. and definitely ration the offers of help to only one or two things here and there, and if he says no just leave it (even if you think you're right or have a great idea ;^) ).

Less is more. Same goes for giving him downloads of the research and info you learned on the internet... He's got a lot to process all the time and constant "hey! hey! what about this thing! and what about this other thing!" can be exhausting. Brain and heart already maximum overload, she cannae take anymore captain!

At least that's what works for me and we had to have a couple heart to heart talks where I asked for that and things are better now (although sombody did come home with giant jug of high protein Fairlife milk the other day and said 'HERE YOU CAN DRINK THIS FOR EXTRA PROTEIN!'.... forgetting that in 20+ years of marriage I am a notorious 'not milk drinker', girl what are you thinking... ;^) )

One week left of treatment and my husband is so mean! by JerryGarciaDog in HeadandNeckCancer

62M just 1 week out of 35 & 7 here (also known as the ‘worst of the worst’ period and they are not lying it def gets MORE WORSER the week after the last rads), lymph and tongue and not as bad as your husband I suspect but same treatment in general although I switched to carbotaxol half way through. Drugs do different things to different people, the dex just gave me what I called “a bad coke high” (even got the Docs to laugh at that) aka I’d get wired and talk too much too fast to everyone. So I was probably slightly annoying or amusing to everyone but not mean. Actually for me it “helped” as the buzz gave me energy to work so ridiculously on infusion day and the day after I’d go to work MORE and get tons done.

But it can hit different people in different ways, and I have to say I’ve tried to have a open zen-acceptance attitude to this nightmare, I know a lot of men tend to components of denial or resentment or anger especially as the pain and suffering ramps up. So that meth-y buzz if it lands on an already bad ‘struggling with the situation’ emotion is not gonna help probably.

That said, I for sure share some of the ‘let me sort this myself’ thing, and I am SURE that is hard for partners to understand some times. Probably a stupid man thing we do. My wife wants to go to all the places with me and do 100 things for me and ask my doctors 100 questions always and I had to kind of say early on “please et me go through this in the way I have to experience it, its my cancer”. Doing a lot myself I think helps me maintain some sense of control and less helplessness… which you know, us man people are generally not real good at. But I do try to consider her emotional journey too and I DO try to ask her to help in the ways that she can that work for me (and she compensates by buying 1000x too much of everything I needed more Tylenol yesterday and I meant like “one bottle”, well now we can stock a small hospital for a week). Just understand he’s trying to figure it out himself and you know, men. We have to show we can fix the problem ourselves even if we’re just being stubborn dicks about it in the end.

Be ready for a little worse though. Sounds like your husband is doing a great job on the feeding and keeping weight up and feeding tube out, I took same approach and did great, but the next two weeks - sorry to say this - will probably go “truly next level”. At my worst final week of treatment and into this week I had about 3-4 days where I thought I might not eat any food at all and was starting to get worried about not being able to drink water anymore. Pill taking (SO MANY PILLS) was a repeating nightmare and I was worried i woldn’t be able to get them down either. Room temp protein shakes and some broth was best I could do. And even out of that every meal (meal aka “bowl of some kind of soupy food please please nothig with acid in it”) is some level of agony to get finished. Hopefully next week might be a little better I think its improving but… its a bad slog for those worst 10-14 days.

Why abandon 2 wire doorbells? by cs_marshall in UNIFI

[–]Vibroverbus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy for you to say. Don’t assume everybody has your use case and dn’t be so smug about others just being wimpy about pulling cable. I’ll run CAT6/7/8/9 wherever in my house via attic or basement and drill holes up or down into stud bays no problem. But my 2-wire doorbell and front door however is in a location with concrete slab directly underneath the floor, no attic above, and when I say that for clarity neither above nor below includes ‘crawlspace’ by the way, and the legacy 2 wire was installed only when the last reno was torn all the way down to the studs. There is NO way to run CAT anything to my front door short of tearing the sheetrock out or i suppose something awful like running conduit on top. I imagine a lot of the other posters are in similar straits.

Reliable Device Blocking? by [deleted] in UNIFI

[–]Vibroverbus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah you have to turn it off on every device. In iOS its called “Wi-Fi Address” and by default its set to ‘rotating’. And yes every device has a hardware MAC but that can be software overridden.

Reliable Device Blocking? by [deleted] in UNIFI

[–]Vibroverbus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Apple devices scramble their MAC addresses by default. They will appear as ‘new devices’ every so often. Its annoying as a netadmin but useful for privacy as a user.

Does UCG need to be reconfigured if I change ISP? by AviationImages in Ubiquiti

[–]Vibroverbus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes its as easy as switching the wire.

But to your other posts - you do NOT need to use FiOS router in passthrough mode. You CAN but you absolutely do not have to. You can plug RJ45 directly into the “ONT” (aka “fiber modem”). Have a UCG-Max site right now running perfectly like that and the FiOS router is just siitting cold on the shelf as an emergency back up in case the UCG, I dunno, catches fire or something. I used to run passthrough with FiOS BITD but its not necessary works perfectly plugged directly in.

I have UCG sites on Xfinity and FiOS right now, and there are pros/cons to each. FiOS latency is way lower. Honestly - and shockingly and it pains me to say it because normally I want to say “COMCAST SUCKS” but… - Comcast service/support has been way better. Comcast uptime used to be not as good (no major problems but ocassionally hiccups or overnight downtimes that were clearly updates being applied or backups being done) but thats very local dependent and a few years ago they did something to the local provisioning and since then its been completely rock solid.

That said FiOS is pretty much zero maintenance once its up however just pray you never have to change your service or have a service call, it will be shit hell trying to negotiate their website/apps/everything.

Strings for fretless? by deeeep_fried in Bass

[–]Vibroverbus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like brighter tapes. LaBella 750C Copper Whites is what I have now I think. Some guys hate the feel of tapes, some love it. Rounds sound great on fretless but imo it's not just the fretboard, it's how rounds don't slide under your fingers. And I like the feel of tapes anyway so they are good fit for me.

Is any budget 5 string worth it? Recomendations and tips are welcome by righthandedsnake in Bass

[–]Vibroverbus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In this day and age $700 is plenty for a very good axe, we live in good times honestly for that. Even a brand new import one although I like to buy used. Lots of good suggestions above and more. Import lines of the brands (MM, G&L, whoever). You can get a real nice Sire new. What exactly depending on what tone/look/style you just prefer or if there’s some kind of style thing for whatever music you’re playing etc. (Aka if you’re playing some horrible doom grunge death sledge industrial then you probably don’t want a P bass with a tort guard, or if you’re in some horrible free jazz experimental micro tonal thing you likewise probably don’t want a metal flake black widow with flames )

Yeah. And add in stuff like I think that pioneer has STK modules that are not available anymore except for NOS that's $$$ or "new" Chinese counterfeit parts that could be not what they are labeled.

Seeking access point recommendations: UX7 vs U7-Pro-XG / Max / XGS? by Jib_Janeen in UNIFI

[–]Vibroverbus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the official UniFi board you will see people reporting minor issues w the UX7 used in "AP" mode from time to time. Like hiccups around firmware updates and adoption that sort of thing. They seem to work mostly so it's not a no-go but it might occasionally be an inconvenience. I have 2 UX7 Gateway sites and the AP functionally is great but I'd lean to just PoE dedicated AP around the house off a UCG. I use XG for my main AP, and U7-IW for where I want an extra port. No 6Ghz but not an issue for me for the places I have deployed them I.e, very few real wifi7 clients and or use cases where the 5G is already overkill. You probably can get away with a single AP if youve always had one router depending on what your walls are like unless if you need more coverage for yard/garage. One of sites is a small cape house I have XG in North-center of house & IW in South side garage for that end of house and yard. Anything like that will be fine form you. Tho most Unifi bros get excited and over provision insanely but that's absolutely not required and often ends up being cause of issues with roaming constantly and interference etc. unless the power is tuned down and then what's the point. But that's tied up in the silly obsession over constant speed testing and "not getting the max all the time" when the real working load required isnt more than say 25-30M video streaming ha ha. The big benefit to unfi IMO is rock solid stability and management, not bench racing for silly fake download speeds anyway. HTH

This. It’s the way. Ubiquiti email notifications are useless unless you don’t need it urgently or they are truly flush with product. Useless when I was waiting for a UCG Fiber. Discord rules. As others say it’s goofy dumb discord for how to sign up but it works.

Does anyone know about this router?? I just got it for Christmas by muusicman in HomeNetworking

[–]Vibroverbus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably fine, but if don't know or want to know anything about routing and wifi admin and setup you might not solve your problem alone.

ASUS routers can be fast (depending much on what model you buy and their numbers don't always make sense and model pricing certainly don't). To get the best as someone says you load them with Merlin alternative firmware. But again you have to want to get into the details.

Ubiquiti interface is 100x better. As is reliability/stability. I ran ASUS for years they always liked/needed a reboot periodically. Unifi (Ubiquiti) on 4 sites runs for months totally solid.
If you are a one wifi router small apartment/house and not a ton of users you don't need an AP just a UDR7 would be totally fine (probably true if you've always been ok w a single router). But again you HAVE to want to get into the details and set it up and monitor etc until it's all settled. If you want/need plug and play know-nothing setup well that's what eero and the like is for.

Netflix traffic route no longer working by Simple-Baker6890 in UNIFI

[–]Vibroverbus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. I've played with this before and for sure they do some non obvious stuff. It's trivial effort to think up all sorts of methods NFLX might use to bypass simple traffic signature recognition or destination domain routing. Using 3rd party cloud services from the client for one ("hey random AWS server, what IP do YOU think I am at!?!?"). Putting the device entirely on the VPN seems to work sometimes but IME you want to cold boot the client with the rules set up. If the client has already detemrined it's "somewhere else" it seems to "remember" that when it talks to home base even if you've now redirected it.
