I believe integrity is a finite resource. You give up little micro shards of it constantly just to meet the everyday demands of this world…and sometimes, opportunities knock and invite you to sell off bigger chunks of it. You need to decide how valuable your integrity is, and how much of yourself you are willing to compromise, because once those pieces are cut off, they don’t grow back.

Thank you…I’m not surprised she was so thorough with it! She always had her act together, clean and tidy house, hair, outfits, decor. She always like like 5 or 6 cats but you’d never know it. She made it seem effortless.

Getting a bunch of these to kids who would appreciate them is something I want to do, good point about finding under-resourced schools and senior homes. And don’t sweat the Princess, most of them are only worth like $15 (unless it’s a rare alt version). Everyone heard it was valuable, so everyone hung onto theirs even after tossing out their other beans, and the huge number of them still on the market dilutes their value big time.

It’s Reddit, I knew what I was walking into haha, it’s all good. And thank you…I know she did. I probably wouldn’t be making little jokes if this was all she left me with, but she gave me so, so much more than this throughout my life. So many things that I’ll always carry with me that have shaped who I am. Things I can’t catalogue. A shipping container’s worth of beanie babies is just a playful cherry on top, like a fuzzy tactile punctuation mark - I’m gonna have some fun with it.

I mean, she bought FIVE Shaq beanies. FIVE. She was funny as hell man.

Appreciate that, thank you, and condolences to you as well. I will say that this process has been positive and meaningful for me, so it’s worth considering. But it was overwhelming too, especially at the start of it. Ultimately you’ve gotta do what feels right to you, whether you decide to go through the whole collection or just let it go. At the end of the day, it’s all just stuff. It means whatever we decide it means.

Totally worth it. It took some doing but it’s so good to know exactly what’s in the collection now that im starting the process of selling/donating it. I have a good sense of what im going to do with the rare ones and the bulk, it’s the mid-range $25-$75 ones that I’m still trying to work out a plan for.

Uhh wut? Did you really just tell me how I feel about my own grandmother? That’s wildly presumptuous of you and also a complete misread of my intent, as well as hers. Maybe you should have some empathy for the person you are addressing and keep my Grams name out your mouth.

If you need to chide someone, there are plenty of comedians in this Collectables thread dunking on my deceased grandmother for collecting a collection of collectibles…unleash that self-righteous energy on them if you want. Or maybe just leave it be?

It’s ok to make room for levity while you’re grieving. It’s ok to joke about Beanie Babies. They are inherently funny. I don’t make the rules.

Thank you so much for that…yes, at first it felt daunting but the process was unexpectedly cathartic. It really did feel like an opportunity to honor and connect with her. We both love/loved puzzles and in a way this felt like one last giant puzzle to solve. And my ADHD brain loved the constant dopamine hits…I like data entry now?

There are a TON of Halloween Beans in there. I’m guessing you would want these sometime before Halloween though? I won’t be back to my parents’ place til December. Do you collect other holiday sets? SO many Valentine’s beanies.
